West Virginia is considering a bill to teach schoolchildren how
to handle a gun and hunt safely its proponent hopes will
increase state revenues from hunting licenses, a state lawmaker
said Thursday. "We will teach a hunting safety course during
their physical education class," state senator and bill sponsor
Billy Wayne Bailey told AFP. The courses would be imparted in
secondary schools, from the eighth to 10th grade (13-16 years
of age).

I like the idea. Proper training will reduce the risks of
firearm accidents. It will also serve as a check against the
gun control lunacy being put forth in some schools in other
states.
This is an interesting idea. Perhaps this is a class which
should be offered in all schools? Perhaps if a young person is
taught the safe handling of firearms, and taught to handle them
responsibly, there would be fewer deaths caused by firearms?
I have been a proponent for decades that hunting and/or firearms
safety should be taught in all schools like drivers ed was. I see
it as a way to reduce accidental shootings. When I went through
high school we had an intramural rifle team that competed against
other schools in the area.
I agree, but had a secondary thought..
Can you imagine the liability insurance in the schools? Ouch. Do we
really want
our tax dollars going for this?
Why are you opposed to "doing it for the kids"......
Aren't they worth it?
Sarcasm noted.
The point remains.. the liability will be high. This cuts into costs
that could be used for teaching reading, and writing, and 'rithmetic.
Is this a choice you want to make?

Well, why don't we cut out the gay studies programs and all the other
social engineering bullshit? I'm sure that will save a bundle.
Could be, and I'm sure you want me to disagree. I think school should
be about the basics, although admittedly the basics have changed over
time. Certainly, we can cut gay studies, and all religion classes.
Then again, I don't really see the point in my daughters memorizing
the Presidents of the United States, either.
Matt
God knows you wouldn't your children to have any historical perspective.
Especially about the country they live in and will provide them with more
opportunity than any other nation ever could or will.
Matt I was hoping for something from you, but when you tell me you want your
own children to be ignorant...
