Here is an interesting quote from an article by Greg Esposito of the
Roanoke Times on January 31, 2006. It concerned the defeat of HB 1572
that would have allowed law abiding students to legally carry a
firearm on public campuses. I found it ironic because these same law
abiding students only had camera phones to shoot back with. The lack
of constitutional protection has degraded college students to that of
second class citizens.
"Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hinckser was happy to hear the bill was
defeated. 'I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the
General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students,
faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.'"
I wonder what Larry Hinckser is thinking of his comment now?
