looking at it the opposite way, your NOT having a gun doesn't mean the
criminal will not shoot you.
your having a gun means the guy may not get a second shot, you survive and
he dies.He may not be ready to shoot if surprised by a "victim" producing a
gun and firing at him. It's happened often enough.
Criminals do NOT want to get into a shootout, gunshots draw attention they
don't want and their chances of getting shot are too high.If they get
shot, they get caught..when they seek treatment for gunshot wounds.
Criminals prefer UNARMED victims.
If they have suspicions that their prey is armed, they choose another person
that looks more vulnerable.

Now you are making sense
Criminals indeed do not like shootings,
that is why they probably won't shoot you if you are cooperating.
They may not even shoot you if you are not.
And yet, the FBI states that you are far more likely to be injured or killed if you are unarmed and defenseless that if you are armed. And by a VERY LARGE margin too....
If you have a gun, and they know that in advance,
they might not even mess with you.
How would they know in advance ?
We don't velcro them to our foreheads
(Or they may decide to shoot you from behind,
but I do agree most criminals would refrain from action)
Any criminal that would shoot you from behind is a threat to society and should be shot on sight like a rabid dog
To imagine that being armed would be some form of protection against such an attack is simply stupid
To use such an argument against being prepared to defend yourself is intellectually dishonest
You're not doing too well so far, bub
Of course owning a gun would not be sufficient,
Making it noticeable for the criminals that you are wearing one,
seems nescesary to have any such result.
NOPE
There is something called the "Halo effect"
It occurs in states that have Concealed-Carry laws
The criminal not knowing who may be armed is much more circumspect about attacking someone
But if they have pulled their gun first, and you pull yours later,
I have little doubt that the situation gets more dangerous for you.
The situation is ALREADY dangerous when the criminal threatens you with a gun
Ironically, most criminals delude themselves into thinking that their victim is harmless
That's how the actually work up the courage for the assault
If you can distract them long enoug to draw your own gun, you literally turn the table on them and gain immediate superiority in the situation
It's takes them a few seconds to digest that your are not as harmless as they so much want to believe
That is enough time to put a couple of holes in them and termnate the assault permanenetly
You should read the column that appears in NRA publications called "The Armed Citizen"
It collects incidents where individuals have successfully defended themselves from criminal attacks using their gun
Many of the incidents are actually of people who successfully pull a gun on an armed criminal and win.
And that was what you were questioning:-)
Nope
You are the one creating false analogies and then questioning them
