Well, this country was founded mostly by 'just people with deer
rifles.' Of course, their opponents weren't armed much better, but they
had
the distinct advantage of numbers and superior training the world over.

Tanks, artillery, supersonic aircraft, efficient communications, Huey,
Cobra, and Apache choppers, etc.

Seems the Afghani tribesmen managed to defeat the Red Army, who
had the Soviet equivalent of all of the above. Then there is Viet-nam,
where
a buncha guys in black pajamas and showershoes managed to get the French
foriegn legion to leave (in spite of really massive support by this
country
including fighter and fighterbomber aircraft and TWO WWII surplus aircraft
carriers). Then the same group of people, supported by North Viet-nam,
threw
US out along with elite forces from at least four other countries.

In Afghanistan, in the midst of a civil conflict, the Soviets were there to
prop up a Soviet-Sympathetic government. We supplied the rebels with arms.
Russia and China supplied arms to the North Vietnamese. Neither fought with
deer rifles.

And as for the foundations of this country, muzzle loading muskets were the
order of the day, fighting a British army supplied by England which might
have been four to six weeks away. A round trip journey might stretch to 9
weeks in good weather. Further, England after 1778, was also fighting a war
with France, Spain, and Holland. With resources severely divided, England
quit in 1781 at Yorktown.

None of these conditions would exist in Hansen's fairy tale scenario of the
first post. If the US military had to supress some kind of rebellion, it
would be accomplished in a matter of hours.
