What does any of this have to do with the First Amendment?

Has everything to do with the First Amendment. But the problem is FAR
larger than some political group trying to boycott network
advertisers. The problem starts way back with J.P. Morgan who had a
list made up of the 100 most influential newspapers in America and
then bought 50 of them. Today the great majority of so-called "news"
is virtually totally controlled by a handful of outfits.

In a nutshell, the problem is like this: When it comes to preserving
the fairness and equality of say the capitalist system, the government
feels it has a role to keep the rules fair. Anti-trust cases and
reviews of mergers keep monopolies from developing. But when it comes
to the First Amendment. Suddenly it's just too convenient to have a
lapdog press there to do your bidding. So rather than protecting
competition and diversity of viewpoints in the news and media, those
in power simply look the other way and alternative voices get gobbled
up and lesser outlets shut down. The American goal should be to keep
ALL viewpoints on the air and newsstands. To shut down all those
opinions who don't agree with you is to shutdown informed public
debate. Of course politicians LOVE UNinformed public debate, but you
won't, once you are forced to live under the laws that such debate
produces.
