I'm no genius, but you need a spring in there somewhere, guys.

The AR15/M16 family of weapons also have a floating firing pin--no
spring on the firing pin either. It's light enough that so that it's
inertia doesn't fire the next round.

The mass of the firing pin doesn't matter. How does the operator fire
the first round, or *stop* firing the second?

In a "fire from closed bolt" system like the M16/AR, the trigger
releases the hammer which strikes the firing pin.

ok.

In a "fire from open bolt" system, the trigger releases the bolt and
then retains the bolt in the open position when the trigger is released.

What's an "open" position on a "bolt," and how does trigger position
change it? How does the bolt "know" what position the trigger is in?
The bullet and "blow-back" don't "care."

In all guns, trigger release is an important part of design as pull.
Has to be.
