In a "fire from closed bolt" system like the M16/AR, the trigger
releases the hammer which strikes the firing pin.

In a "fire from open bolt" system, the trigger releases the bolt and
then retains the bolt in the open position when the trigger is released.
What's an "open" position on a "bolt," and how does trigger position
change it? How does the bolt "know" what position the trigger is in?
The bullet and "blow-back" don't "care."
In all guns, trigger release is an important part of design as pull.
Has to be.
