BTW, how did you resolve that problem?

I'll knock out the loading lever latch & keep it in a safe place. When
I'm shooting I'll use an old bandana to hold the loading lever and wipe
the gun down.

Sounds like a plan. A bit of rawhide (loosely) fit and sewn seems as
if it'd be a tad more heat resistant though.

Can't wipe it down with a strip of rawhide, bandana is historically correct
& can also be used to swab the barrel & strangle anybody giving me unasked
for advice, eh Jumbo?
