Name one logical reason for having guns at all? Other than
police and military of course.
Are you one who believes in fair play for criminals? That the victims
shouldn't be better equipped to defend themselves than the criminals are
equipped for attack?
Why are your police and military special? Are the rest of your citizens
no more worthy of having an effective means of defense against assault?
The rest of the citizens are not trained properly to defend against
assault, now if you trained every gun owner properly (and no I don't
think all police in Canada have the proper training either) then that
would be another thing. I am not opposed to someone who is properly
trained from owning a gun, I just see no reason for there to be a gun
in every household.
No one advocates a "gun in every household",they advocate those who wish to
own a firearm should be able to.Their *choice*,not yours.
Besides why would I have a gun on the off chance I
got attacked by someone else whith a gun when there are so few gun
crimes in the city I live in,
Why do you think that everybody has the same situation as you?
Why do you think "gun crimes" are the only crimes that might require use of
a gun? Is being killed by a knife less bad than by a gun? (or raped at
knifepoint?)
I'm more apt to get hit by lightning. And
even in the bigger cities like Toronto its still not likely that you
will ever come across a gun wielding criminal, I go there frequently
and have walked thru some of the worst areas of town in the middle of
the night and wasn't the least bit frightened.
All that says is that you were blissfully ignorant.and unprepared for a
possible incident.
That's is your choice,of course.
You shouldn't make it for anyone else, though.
WRT training;
In the Heathrow community in central Florida,a 50 yr old woman had a
stalker smashed through her home's patio door, armed with a gun and a piece
of rope. She had a restraining order against the stalker. At that time, local
police recommended she buy a gun,and one officer gave her *20 minutes* of
training and practice. After being shot twice, she still managed to get to
her gun and killed the stalker with a single shot.It saved her life.
That happened UNDER DURESS,and with little training,by an older
woman,inexperienced with firearms.
Police would not have been able to arrive in time to protect or save
her,and the restraining order was effectively *just a piece of paper*.
People like YOU would rather she was raped and killed than be able to
defend herself, for some imaginary concept of public safety.
You should read the NRA's "Armed Citizen" column, reports of successful
legal self-defense gleaned from local newspapers.
EDUCATE yourself.
