Yes, I have. Esp wrt the recent Israeli/Hezbolla conflict, I
constantly hear analogies of form "if someone who has repeatedly told
you he intends to kill you points a gun at you, do you or do you not
have the right to react?" Ditto America and terrorism.

The Swiss seem to've found a useful niche, and America seems
to've taken its status as a 'super power' to mean it should be the worlds
policeman.

Continuing that analogy, ask any 'beat cop' what the most
dangerous call they are asked to make is. Chances are very good it'll be a
'domestic dispute,' wherein one spouse beats up on another. Tempers
are hot, and both subjects are armed in some way (even if it's only
fists). So the cop steps in to keep the peace and prevent any (or any
further) injury. Best result, the couple realises their folly, kiss
and make up. Worst result (and most likely) is they combine forces
against the cop until he goes away (or dies), at which point they
start beating on each other again. However, in both cases, the cop is
seen as the 'bad guy' by the parties involved (regardless of any 'good
intent').

This is why, were I president, acting as the world's policeman
would not be very high on my priority list. No matter how things turned out,
the country acting as such would be hated.


You seem to think that it's only because of our actions that we are "hated";it's more acurately a conflict between the West and Islam.
Islam's goal is to take over the world,by force,and that is exactly what is being practiced in reality.Islam does not let Jews or Christians or atheists live in peace in their Islamic-ruled countries.(Turkey is secular-
ruled).They kill those who convert from Islam to other religions,or go "apostate".

At the time I thought why couldn't we be like Switzerland? They
are fairly prosperous. Some might look askance at their banking standards
(or at what they used to be), but holding the wealth of the high and
mighty of the world has a certain "don't tread on me" aspect that
seems to've (at least in part) added to their security. The Swiss have
looked around and asked "what service could we provide that would
result in good prosperity and security?" The answer they arrived at
was to become the worlds banker.

What secures Swiss security is the fact that most of their citizens have full-auto assault rifles in their homes along with a supply of ammo.Together with their rough terrain,they would be a tough nut to crack.

The AR's would be of no use, should someone want to nuke Berne.
