What did Goebbels say about repeating the lie?
It takes a bit of work but the crime numbers come from the Uniform
Crime Report available from FBI.gov and other sources, all available
on the Web. The defensive gun uses come from a study; "Targeting Guns"
by Gary Kleck, a Florida State University criminologist. Not funded by
the NRA or any other pro gun group. In fact, Kleck makes some
recommendations that aren't popular among some pro gun factions like
background checks on all gun sales, for example. His work is peer
reviewed, and available from Amazon.com.

Besides, Gary Kleck is not the DOJ. He's an individual with a single opinion.
I hardly think the American Society of Criminology would be giving Kleck research awards if they had not had members review his work. The book was written, as I recall, based on his work. Sounds common to me.
Here's an interview with Kleck that demonstrates how un-excitable and un -sensationalistic the man really is.

to have for lunch. Liberty is a well armed lamb
contesting the vote." - Benjamin Franklin (or someone else)
