In Florida you don't have to be an alleged anything, you force your way
into an occupied dwelling and you instantly become an endangered species.

I'll tell you my concerns here:

1. Bad guy not shot by victim, but by neighbor. Castle doctrine does not
apply. The shooter got himself into the situation.

It makes no difference, you force your way into an occupied dwelling and you
are legal to shoot by anyone in the state of Florida who can get a clear shot.
If any one particular person is justified in shooting then everyone in the state
is just as justified when they shoot. Florida doesn't have a designated shooter
rule.

2. Bad guy shot aparently as he attempted to flee, which means the victim
was no longer in danger. You're only justified in shooting someone to
prevent loss of innocent life.

That would have been fine if all they did was attempt to flee, but that isn't
all they did.

"Gunfire was exchanged, and one suspect was killed."

Given that he was not even charged it would seem reasonable that he tried to
hold them for the police until they tried to shoot him and that he didn't just
gun one of them down in cold blood.

I think this case presents a dangerous precedent that should not be followed
blindly without considering all the alternatives. The last thing we need is
vigilante mindset.

This is exactly what we need. Criminals who not only have to consider whether
or not a particular victim is armed, but they have to consider if any of their
neighbors are armed as well. This wasn't a case of an armed citizen hunting
down criminals all over town, he was responding to a crime in progress next
door.

Having said all the above, I wish the best to the shooter and the victims
and pray I never have to face a similar situation.

I pray that if you ever end up with a violent predator pointing a gun at your
head, your neighbors are more concerned with your life than they are of the
consequences of being thought a vigilante.
