Bikers banned from owning firearms: Pair guilty of selling weapons to
cop; one gets 18-month jail term

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------

The last two men to plead guilty in a police crackdown on the Hells
Angels and its puppet club, the Prince George Renegades, were sentenced
yesterday for weapons offences.

Derek Charles Timmins, 33, and George James McBeth, 37, pleaded guilty
to the sale of firearms to a police agent in Prince George in October
2004.

B.C. Supreme Court Associate Chief Justice Patrick Dohm sentenced
Timmins to 18 months in jail and 18 months' probation. With time already
served, he'll spend eight more months in prison. McBeth got an 18-month
conditional sentence.

Timmins, a prospect for the Renegades, showed up at the meeting with the
police agent with an AK-47 assault rifle, 60 boxes (1,200 rounds) of
ammunition for the AK-47, and two semi-automatic pistols.

All of the firearms had their serial numbers punched out. The weapons
were sold for $3,700.

Timmins told the police agent that the price included three other
pistols to be delivered later.

He pleaded guilty to transferring firearms. McBeth, playing a lesser
role in the transaction, pleaded guilty to possession of firearms
without a licence.

Timmins, an avid hunter, received a 10-year firearms prohibition, while
McBeth, who had prior firearms convictions, is banned from owning
firearms for life.

Prosecutor Mark Levitz asked that Timmins, as the main gun trafficker,
get two years less a day in jail while Timmins' lawyer, James
Sutherland, called for 12 months in jail, the minimum required for that
offence under the Criminal Code.

Dohm said Timmins should get the same sentence as former Renegade Darrin
Allan Massey, who last summer pleaded guilty to his part in the weapons
sales.

The judge agreed to a request from Levitz that Timmins be banned from
attending the Renegades clubhouse in Prince George. Sutherland opposed
that condition, arguing that the club had not been declared a criminal
organization and was not the site of the weapons sales.

Levitz told the judge the cases brought to an end the RCMP's Project
Essen, which resulted in seven prior guilty pleas, including cocaine-

trafficking convictions against two senior members of the Vancouver
chapter of the Hells Angels.

A tenth accused, William John Moore, a former president of the
Renegades, was murdered shortly after he was charged.

Subject: Wendy says..blah blah blah..

======================
"Given how hard Harper campaigned on democratic reform, how can he
justify an end-run around the Commons?" said Wendy Cukier, Coalition for
Gun Control spokesman. (((Wendy's a 'man'?? She only wishes...))))

"Most of the costs associated with the registry had to do with licensing
gun owners, not registering firearms. It's like someone who spends more
money than he expected to renovating a house, and then decides to burn
it to the ground."
=======================

If you build a house that is as sloppy as this, built from substandard
materials, all held together with bull*** and wishes, the building
inspector's report(Ms. Frazer?)will no doubt result the demolition of
that house for the good of the community.. I guess Wendy would be
satisfied to live in 'anything' providing the Liberal funding would
continue.. But nope.. Now she has two choices, her pay as a 'professor'
or continue on as a 'professional sponge', tricking the gullible into
donating to her 'house of cards'

Gun find puts UBC on edge
Security beefed up at student-run pub after police seize firearms on
campus

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------

MARK HUME VANCOUVER Gang-related gun violence has been escalating in
Vancouver's nightclubs for several years -- and now the threat of it has
come to the usually peaceful environment at the University of British
Columbia.

Police and Alma Mater Society officials are increasing security around
UBC's popular student-run pub, The Pit, after two handguns were seized
on campus last Wednesday night.

"There were 12 males involved and two handguns, a .44-magnum revolver
and a 9 mm pistol," Staff Sergeant Kevin Kenna of the RCMP's detachment
at UBC. "The weapons were loaded." No charges have been laid, but police
are continuing to investigate the incident, which involved some
individuals known to be associated with gangs.

"It's the first time, to my knowledge, that we've found guns on campus,"
Staff Sgt. Kenna said.

"We're taking extra precautions [as a result of the incident].

There's no doubt about that," he said, adding that more patrols are now
taking place.

Staff Sgt. Kenna said the men were stopped in the vicinity of The Pit
pub, but not on the premises.

"I understand some of them were turned away earlier," he said.

An RCMP patrol stopped one group and found a weapon, and then the
Vancouver Police Department, which responded as backup, stopped a second
group in a car and found another gun.

The Pit, a popular hangout on campus, particularly on Wednesday nights,
is restricted to students and their guests.

"At no point did any of these people with weapons actually enter The
Pit," said Spencer Keys, president of the AMS. "We're displeased anyone
would actually want to enter with weapons, but we are proud of the way
management and staff responded." He said the AMS is looking at increased
security measures, including more lighting, more security cameras and
tighter regulations on who can enter. At present any UBC student with an
AMS card can get in and sign in a guest. There have been discussions
about possibly allowing only UBC students in, or requiring their guests
to have a student card from another B.C. university.

"We do not want to discourage that [students bringing guests].

But our prime responsibility is to AMS members and their safety," Mr.
Keys said.
