In fact, the vast majority of rapes are committed by someone the victim
knows and trusts; so unless they wear a gun 24/7/365 they most likely
won't have the gun handy when attacked, and even if they do the rapist
has the advantage of suprise.

So when you tell a woman her handgun will protect her from rape you're
lying your ass off just so the gun industry can sell a few more new
guns.

Now if you wanted to really protect women from rape, you'd give her:

1. something she really would wear 24/7/365 and it wouldn't be
conspicuous or cumbersome

2. something that would immediately stop the man from attacking her and
give her time to get away and get help, like an hour at least to get
away

3. something that does not require any hand-to-hand fighting skills on
the woman's part, but which can be used with a simple movement of the
wrist or hand or fingers, and is instantly effective

4. something that isn't just a one shot weapon, but can be used a dozen
times without reloading, without killing the attacker

5. is not a firearm, so can be worn anywhere, even in swimming pools
and showers

6. and it costs less than $10

Instead of throwing guns at women, make something that could really
save their lives in actual rape or assault situations by men they
trust.

The reason we don't have such a weapon is because the gunlobby and the
gun manufacturers couldn't make a buck on it.

Maybe I'll just invent such a weapon and market it and put the gun
lobby out of business.
