Farewell

I have enjoyed my participation in newsgroups
since 1993.
However, the latter has been overtaken by cross-posting
loons, and malicious trouble makers and has just a few of
the original occupants who made it an interesting and
worthwhile place. Likewise in my judgement, nz.general
has become a haven for the perpetually outraged at both
ends of the political spectrum, the obsessed, and those
who somehow don't grasp the "us" part of the group's
title. If the purpose of the group is to discuss
Middle Eastern and Canadian politics, all of
which have groups of their own anyway, then I am in the
wrong place. Filtering is less and less effective and the
groups are now swamped, in my opinion, with irrelevance.
I recognise that in the eyes of others, I may be part of
the problem. It is time to do a Bilbo Baggins style exit.
I want to make more productive use of my leisure time, so
this is my last posting to the newsgroups.

To all those on these groups with whom I have engaged in
friendly discussion over the last decade, especially
those I have met in person, thanks for your
companionship, support and advice through various
personal crises and triumphs. Don't hesitate to make
contact via email if I can be of help to you, or to make
contact by phone if you are passing through Hell
