I don't know if you're vegan or not, but this IS the typical
reaction of vegans when they hear about it.
First they never heard of it, despite the claims they usually
make about having completly 'researched' a vegan diet and found
it to be better. ie, no animals die.

When presented with facts they will then claim, 'well, it must be
fewer animals.' Again, without any cites to back up their
wishful thinking. As this show presented, although they never
got into the issue, it's too easy to show that somebody that eats
meat CAN cause overall less death and suffering than a vegan.

Next comes, 'well, I didn't mean to kill them, so it doesn't
matter.' That's an excuse used to assuage their guilt, because
the animals are just as dead. Do you figure a dead animal cares
whether it gets eaten after it's dead?

After that, it proceeds to 'well, slaughterhouse animals suffer
greatly.' I'd have to say that being sliced, diced, shredded,
dis-membered and ground up alive would constitute far more
brutal, in-humane treatment than a bolt to the brain. And then
there is the use of poisons. Some of these poisons kill by
making the guts of these animals turn to mush over several days.
Again, doesn't sound too humane to me. After the crops are all
harvested, the animals that did excape the machinery and poisons
are now left with no cover and no food. This easy food and cover
all summer allowed the populations of many animals to soar to
unnatural levels. Levels that now cannot be maintained with the
food and cover gone. These animals are now left to die by
starvation and predation. I don't know about you, but starving
to death or being eaten alive don't sound very humane either.

These are all isssues that vegans refuse to focus on, instead,
resorting back to their simple rule for their simple minds, 'eat
no meat.'
