Whoops! Democracy fails again!



You may remember that post-WMD and post-regime change the reason for the war became the introduction of democracy throughout the Middle East.

You may possibly also remember that I forecast that the introduction of democracy throughout the Middle East might not quite turn out as GWB seemed to expect.

Today's vote by the Palestinians is the perfect example of this. Although the EU is prepared to re-run referenda if the people give the wrong answer, the democracies further east are not sufficiently mature for this kind of solution.

It will be interesting to watch the wriggling of the administration in the face of this result. Hopefully Condy will be able to prevent anyone from nuking Gaza City, however attractive this will seem to some.
