I note that Ray M, a regular at talk.origins for many years, probably
after
realizing that neither his promised 'paper' nor 'book' designed to be the
end of the ToE, making all our lives miserable, ever will see the

day, has not posted here since July 23rd.
I am afraid we will have to suffer more of him at PT now, and I
believe it
would be an effective strategy simply to ignore his insane arguments
and ask
him some relevant questions instead.
I believe he has admitted that mutations do occur, but he is 100% in
denial
wrt natural selection.
I have noted that in all the years he's been active here, he's never
shown
any interest in, or understanding/knowledge of science at all. He simly
relies on his concept of 'invisble designer in nature.'
Nature or natural causes are not in his vocabulary.
He may have admitted that mutations do occur, bet he has never
admitted the
fact of natural selection.
I suggest that in the future his insane claims and arguments are ignored.
Instead he should simply be asked the same questions over and over again.
Questions about genetic varations, reproduction and survival.
There is a lot of intelligence in nature, excpet there isn't anything
magical about it, it is just the way that it is.
Are bacteria intelligent? The obvious answer is no, but how do they
behave?
Just like us, they are doing the best they can to survive and replicate.
Mutating and taking advantage of the mutations.
That's what we see in all of life.
If we study the chemistry of life, we find both indvidual cells,
structures
and organs behaving in an 'intelligent' manner, doing their best to
perform
a life-preserving funtion. When studied at close range, what we
observe is
of course simply chemistry, but the effect, the result is
undistiguishable
from 'intelligent' behavior. Alhough it is not possible to attribute
that to
foresight, intention or suchlike, the effect nonetheless is the same.
Incidentally, what we see in all forms of life and also in human
behaviour
is the tendency to maintain life, to stay alive. Life is 'eternal', and
since cells cannot survive indefinitely, they have developed a workaround
device. Without death there couldn't be much life, could it?
Just a-thinking loud.
Resend attempt:
Ray is probably in the same boat as many of our Google Groups regulars
without the obligatory private newsreader circuit. He probably gotten
frustrated by Computer Nerd (tm) again. I just checked Google Groups and
nothing since August 1st. Google is probably too busy fighting the
patent wars right now to worry about newsgroups.
But Ray long ago chimed in about this long-running Google Groups problem:
http://groups.google.com/group/talk.origins/msg/df4d4fb2d0432dfd
[Rayquote] "Well, if you'd just get yourself a newsreader this wouldn't
happen."
That's what computer nerd has always told me.
Obviously I am correct: when the Group is down, for whatever reason,
messages do not post on the Internet. Just because some might show up
on your private newsreader circuit does not mean that they are seen on
the Internet.
I am vindicated by this present incident of down time: no messages
posted, from Google Groups or newsreader.
Computer nerd can say anything but reality says the public cannot read
messages when the Group is down via Google whether its Google's fault
or not. [/Rayquote]
Like it or not, at this point Panda's Thumb is probably Ray's only
venue, so just hope that Google works a miracle and gets the Groups up
and running at 84% again.
Yeah, I figure that's his problem. Several people have offered to help
him with this problem -- and I've mentioned I'd be more than willing to
walk him through setting up a newsreader and an account at a free usenet
server -- but in typical Ray fashion, he refused to learn and quickly
grew abusive.
Ray seems to believe usenet is a small ring of private enthusiasts who
use an alternate network to connect to Google, who own the "real"
internet. He also expressed some concerns that connecting from home or
setting up a usenet account would open him up to stalking and
harassment. (Perhaps from the Evil Atheist Conspiracy? I don't know.)
Talk.Origins Newsreader IS a private circuit. Don't agree? then show
me a search engine where one can view your messages when Google is
down.....waiting....
The world wide web is not the internet.
Yes it is, its the same thing.
No. "World wide web" refers to sites accessible through hypertext
transfer protocol (HTTP). The internet is the hardware and software
network linking innumerable computers around the globe, and supports
countless other protocols, one of which is NNTP.
NNTP uses a client-server setup, so you'll need access to a server to
use it, but several servers are freely available. Once again, if you're
interested in accessing usenet, I'd be quite happy to assist you; I'm a
professional IT nerd and fairly handy with such things.
Your expertise, which I have no reason to doubt, only helps my case,
Richie.
I have said that I will concede the point when you show me how to
access your newsreader posts when GG is down. Note that I said "GG"
and not Google. If you can't, and so far you haven't, then I conclude
newsreader is a private circuit that is NOT connected directly to the
Web or Internet. Your paragraphs above, in the context of expertise,
are definitions. I am talking about and have been talking about ACCESS
by anyone, anywhere at anytime. When GG is down newsreader posts
cannot be seen by everyone, anytime. If you disagree then simply tell
me how to view newsreader posts when GG is down?
What is it that you do not understand?
Ray
HTTP is only one of many
protocols used to transmit and receive information on the internet.
So???????????
So HTTP is not the internet, and the internet is not HTTP. The internet
is the medium through which HTTP is transmitted, but it's not a synonym
for HTTP.
But we've had this discussion before, and I predict you'll ignore it now
as you did then.
Simply show me how to read your newsreader messages when Google is
down and I will concede the point? Can you provide another search
engine? You cannot; therefore newsreader is a private circuit. In the
past you have shown no ability to understand these simple points.
Links have been provided for you elsethread. As I've mentioned before,
Google Groups is merely another type of newsreader client -- and a
particularly inferior one, as it threads poorly and is prone to going
down for days at a time. If you'd like to upgrade, I'm happy to help.
I'm not sure you understand what "private circuit" means; you may be
applying your own personal definition, as you so often do. While NNTP
does use a client-server architecture, HTTP does as well. If usenet is a
"private network," so is the world wide web.
Incidentally, our exchanges on the topic contributed in no small way to
my believe that Ray is legitimately mentally ill.
Since you actually think the wonders of nature were produced without
Divine power and intelligence, I am not the least bit offended.
Offending you was never my intent. I just wish you'd get the help you so
obviously need.
I am relieved and comforted to be considered mentally ill by persons
who think apes morphed into men over the course of millions of years.
See, this is what I mean. You've insisted on misstating the theory of
evolution for years now, despite allegedly reading lots of books on the
topic.
