It strikes me that a proper Christian ought to place more weight on
what they are supposed to think is the work of God (the universe)
than on the words of men (the Bible, and in particular
interpretations of the Bible).
The Bible is not called "God's word" for nothing, Ernest.
But /who/ /called/ it that? And why are you sure that person was
right? You must, surely, know that's what you're being asked.

I just tried to reply by a hand-held device, and I am traveling cross-
country
in the back seat of a nice, but bumpy riding pick-up. I will try to
answer when I get to a smoother place soon as I can. I tried to reply
to Harshman
but I don't know if it went through. I didn't get to complete it. The
person saying that was Jesus when he prayed in the Garden of
Gethsemane, just
before going to his trial. There are also other scriptures about it.
Jesus also prayed that people would be sanctified (set apart) by the
testimony of his
followers. Their testimony became the N.T., and the N.T. Says that as
the
believers met, "the word increased.
suzanne... Also there are O.T. Scriptures, too
But surely you see that a book declaring itself the word of God isn't a
reason to believe that it is. The Bible in fact seems to be rather vague
on the subject; the Qur'an is much clearer in its claim to be the word
of God, but you presumably don't believe it. So we come back to the
question, who told you that the Bible is the word of God? And what gave
you confidence to believe that person? (I may say that I am genuinely
interested: I've asked people in this newsgroup, and never received an
answer.)

And which Bible? There are a few versions...http://www.biblegateway.com/versions
I recommend the God's Word version, on account of it stating that it
is God's Word right in the title. Now that's authority!
Knowing God's Word is cool. Knowing God's Password is even better.- Hide quoted text -
and most clearly give the plan of how one can be saved. For
example they all have John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9. I like the
KJV and the NKJV and the Holman, and several of them.
When I was growing up all we had was the KJV. When I got
to be an older child we purchased the American Standard, and
there were not very many versions available to us for purchase.
