Re: A few serious Questions for the Evolutionist.

1) Not using science. What compels you to believe the ToE?

The evidence compels me to accept evolution. The evidence was
discovered by scientific methods, but there is no other reason. I
don't really care whether we evolved or not, it is just the apparent
reality.

2) Please give an opinion (not a scientific definition) for why you
think one species can give rise to one or more other species that are
clearly no longer like the original.

We know offspring are similar to the parents but not exactly like
either. We know that small changes can acculmulate to create great
changes. Denying that is like saying a walk in the park is possible
but walking from Nazareth to Jerusalem is impossible, especially by
way of Tyre.

3a) If God worked a genuine miracle in your life (and there could be
no other reasonable explanation other then He did), would you tell
others about it?

Probably, but I've noticed that those who claim such things are wrong
when the facts are verifiable or they are wrong about "no other
reasonable explanation".

3b) If no one believe this miracle took place, how would you try to
convince them?

I would show them the evidence. Lacking that, I wouldn't try to
convince them.

4a) Were you ever religious at one time?

Yes, I was a Fundy for more than two years.

4b) What caused you to become nonreligious.

First, these questions are directed at evolutionists so this question
makes an incorrect supposition for many people.

Faith is supported by many pillars so it usually takes many of them to
be taken out at the same time. The failure to get an answer about the
problem of evil and suffering, finding the dishonesty of creationist
quotemines and how a leader could spout incorrect things which could
be easily checked made me question how they could be believed when
they spoke of heaven and things that could not be verified, the
reasonable explanations of the stories of my fellow believers'
"miracles that could have no other reasonable explanation", the way
group leaders at the retreats I went to would not allow anything that
might reduce the haul of the offering plate while preaching that God
would tell each person how much to donate.

There were other reasons, too.

5) Does the ToE bring you any personal comfort knowing that you are
simply the result of unguided processes and a freak coincidence that
caused spontaneous life?

It doesn't lend any emotional support at all. Understanding my
emotions from an evolutionary perspective does help to understand
desires and fears and how they affect decision-making which can help
prevent making irrational choices.

6) Do you reserve any other explainations that may be posible for
man's origins and for the current state of the earth?

Any other explanation must explain the evidence so it will have
evolution in some form, just as Relativity gives the same results as
Newtonian physics at the mass and velocity ranges Newton worked with.

7) If you are a real scientist, could you ever believe there is a God
knowing what you believe is fact?

IANAScientist, but I am easily convinced that things exist. For
example, I believe this computer, the TV, the desk, the pen, and the
lamp all exist. It would not be difficult for a god to convince me
that it exists. It would require much more convincing to convince me
that the being was actually a god, but it shouldn't be a problem if
they really are a god.

It is amazing how many people will believe in a god based on a waking
dream or even something less convincing.

Thanks in advance.

You are quite welcome.
