There is no doubt in my mind that WvB contributed greatly to getting
man to the Moon. However, there is also no doubt in my mind that
without WvB the USA would still have put a man to the Moon. It may
have taken a few years more, but it would have happened. What is more,
the method that would have been used would, I believe, have been more
cost effective and more sustainable.
It is my understanding that the decision to use the Mercury/Gemini/
Apollo system lead to the demise of the Dyna-soar program, which might
have lead to a less clunky Space shuttle.
The space shuttle is just Dynasoar revamped,
(with NASA instead of the military paying for it)
No, not even close, on so many levels.
Had you read Dennis R. Jenkins' excellent book Space Shuttle:
The History of the National Space Transportation System The First
100 Missions, 3rd Edition, you would have had the knowledge with
which to understand the context of the X-20 in the lineage of the
technology that eventually led to the Shuttle.

To claim that the Shuttle is the X-20 "revamped" would be to
say that the Boeing 777 is just the DC-3 "revamped"...
Well, more like the Boeing 747 is just the English Electric Lightning
revamped, to be consistent with dates and sizes. The X-20 would have
carried two people and no cargo.
Well, one person and no cargo:
"A single pilot sat at the front, while an equipment bay was situated
behind."
