West Roxbury - Members of the John Birch Society believe in protecting
the U.S. Constitution from what they consider to be wavering while
maintaining its integrity.
"Less government, more responsibility, and with God's help, a better
world" is the motto of the society that hosted author James Perloff at
the West Roxbury Branch Library on Saturday afternoon.
Those guys are still around? What's the average membership age, seventy?
They used to have a booth at the State Fair in among the Popeil-like
gadgets and the people who sell chainsaw sculptures. I was mean enough to
engage one of them in conversation during the Gorbachev years. Even back
then, when The Damn Dirty Commies were only beginning their reform vs.
collapse cycle, they had nothing better to offer than "this is clearly a
trick." I have no idea what they use for content these days.
