Gopher wood is thought to be about twenty different things. No one
knows. I'm not sure that there are cypress trees in the middle east
for Noah to use.

Many have researched this quite a bit and conclude
there were cypress trees in Noah's day and that it
refers to cypress. I personally believe it refers to
a coppery colored wood, since the words are
essentially the same or similar, and cypress certainly
is usually a coppery colored wood.

IS the 18,000 animals accurate?

Could be. Not all of the animals went into the Ark as many
believe.

Why don't you count up all the kinds and see how many there are?
That
should be your answer right there.

If you read the biblical account it says that God brought
the animals to Noah, and that of them, he was to choose
them in twos and some in sevens. The amount of animals
in the ark are limited to the amount that were brought to
Noah. It does not list how many that included.

Well, you could figure it out if only someone knew what a "kind"
was.

Of course. But the Bible tells that all the animals of every
kind were brought to the ark. This is one of the reasons
that I think the word "kind" is a much greater category
than the word "species" refers so.

The question about whether the ark would leak is that
it was air tight, since the instructions were for Noah
to slather it "within and without" with pitch, which is
a kind of tar.

That kind of sucks for those inside who might breathe oxygen.

I should not have used the words "air tight." It
would have been better for me to say "water-proof."
The window above surely provided ventilation.

Noah also was from a famous ship-building
city, Ur. It also received air from above, since the
instructions were to build it with a window, or row of
windows which were at the top of it. An interesting
feature of the shape of the ark, is that it was rectangular,
according to the dimensions given. Some scientists made
a small test model of it to scale and floated it in some
water. They made big waves to see what it would do, and
that particular shape righted itself straight into a wave,
rather than the wave capsizing it from the side.

That sounds quite a bit like bull pats. Which scientists were
these?

I don't remember which science periodical I
read this in Inez. It's probably online somewhere,
too. I'd rather give something that I could also
refer to the scientists by name. But if I don't
remember who they were, I'd still rather give
the information, rather than never mentioning
it, and I thought this was an interesting find.

the wave, automatically, thus avoiding being turned over.

Yes, boxes are magical in that way.

If you picture a boat in the water with a curved
side, such as a rowboat, when another boat
came along, it would send out a wake of waves
toward the rowboat. When they arrived at the
rowboat, the curve side would provide more
points to be assaulted, since the curved side
would provide attack all along the curve. But
a boat that would be rectangular in shape, might
serve to actually deflect waves, because of the
angles of reflex and incident. If a wave hit a
rectangular boat, the shape of it would probably
just provide a rocking, but not a tipping past
the point of capsizing. I don't even know the
scope of how wild the waters would have
been. How wild would water be from rain,
or from flowings from under the ground? It
may have been more gradual than having
giant waves.
