Ooops, missed this bit.
Just so you know: no one denies transmutation to not have existence
before 1859. The issue was and is: respected scientist. No one claims
heretics didn't exist. Wallace was a specimen collector for museums;
Huxley was a saltationist; Hooker was a Creationist; Chambers was an
amateur enthusiast; Lamarck relied on Divine power to sustain descent
(see the Victorian Web article by David Clifford); Darwin was in the
closet until 1858 having never published a word in favor of
transmutation until that year; Lyell and the other eight great
scientific authorities mentioned by Darwin on page 310 of the "Origin"
were immutabilists and, of course, special creationists.
I might be able to respect your opinion as to who was or was not a
respected scientist if you had some credentials at hand. You've
published on the topic, perhaps? Taken an advanced degree? Or is
this just you talkin'.
Garamond
If you accept facts to originate only from scholarship then you and I
agree completely. Only scholars produce facts unless a claim of
originality is in place. Without a scholarly source claims are
unsupported opinion or assertion, subjective.
My paragraph, that is, the one you have commented on, asking for my
credentials, is in fact a string of historical facts that I learned
from scholars via their published writings. I do not have a degree or
credentials. The string of facts is basic stuff, nothing complicated,
and easily gleaned from mainstream historical sources. I interpret
your request to also indicate that you are ignorant concerning
biological history 101.
You should also keep in mind the following facts: Professor of
Eugenics (= white superiority) Ronald Fisher, the author of the highly
acclaimed "Genetical Theory Of Natural Selection" (1930), a person who
Richard Dawkins called (IIRC) the greatest scientist since Darwin, had
no degree in biology and no degree higher than a four year degree.
Speaking of Dawkins: he has no degree in biology or genetics yet he
has published in both subjects receiving nothing but praise. The only
degree Charles Darwin had was in Theology (Christ's College, 1831).
Since your entire scientific future exists on top of these three men,
your claim of only respecting the opinion of credentialed persons is
ad hoc. I have chosen to leave the educating of my mind to Dr. Gene
Scott (Ph.D., Stanford University). I have listened to his teaching my
entire adult life. I consider myself educated in Theology and History
because of Dr. Scott.
In addition: without hesitation, in a recent post, you used Wikipedia
as a source. This is very unscholarly, Garamond. Persons who care
about their reputation do not use Wikipedia as a source because it is
not a source because anyone with a computer can contribute, including
Britney Spears or your uncle. Again, you have contradicted your own
claim about only respecting credentialed sources.
You have also indicated to have finished your education and are now
ready to take-off into your profession: Congratulations and Best
Wishes.
Ray
