One can, in fact, argue that ID is the most successful explanation of
all time. It can explain anything *and* its opposite. At the same
time. It can explain things that have already been explained without
ID and explain things that have yet to be explained. There is
absolutely nothing that ID cannot explain. Of course, that is exactly
why science finds ID boring, useless, and irrelevant.
ThenSETImust be very boring. You guys always get the ID hypothesis
wrong. It isn't that ID can explain everything. It is that only ID
can explain certain things in nature. That is why the search for ETI
is actually quite interesting . . . becuase it is based on the ID-only
theory.
What is it that ID could not explain? What observation, real or
imaginary, could not be explained by saying some designers did it?
It isn't what ID could not explain, it is what *only* ID can explain
that is the basis for detecting true artifacts in science.
That principle has a multiple-millennium record of failure, and not a
single instance of success. What makes you think this time will be
different?
The ID-only hypothesis is the basis of many very successful fields of
science besides SETI - to include forensics and anthropology.
Forensics, anthropology, SETI, etc. do not use your ID hypothesis. They
look for properties which they have *seen* being made, and on the basis
of that known manufacturing process, they infer that manufacture process
of their artifact is similar. You are looking for properties which you
have never seen being made and, in fact, know absolutely nothing about,
and infer whatever the hell you want.
