This book, by a renowned neuroscientist, argues from a completely
evolutionary perspective that humans are, indeed, unique in both brain
structure and capability.  He uses the metaphor of a phase change --
just as the same material can exist as gas, liquid, or solid with very
different properties, the same basic biology can be organized in
different ways with very different abilities and with only relatively
small changes in the genetic control machinery producing such effects.

But don't take my word for it or my very elementary presentation of
just one little piece of a large work -- read it for yourself!  (or
google for reviews).  It has an enormous amount of good stuff in it.

Our brains change as we use
them, growing new connections
throughout our lives.

If Mudman and RayRay actually
used theirs they might notice.
