Super-Science because the evidence proves the scientific and historic
veracity of the Bible----namely the first ten chapters of Genesis"
So, what is this "super science", and how does it work? I'm intrigued as
to how science without methodological naturalism might work. I'm willing
to give Ray's "super science" a chance to demonstrate it's ability to
explain phenomena, and to offer practical solutions. Here are three real
life examples, and how ordinary, everyday science, making use of
methodological naturalism, explains the case, and offers possible solutions.
(Any corrections from more knowledgeable individuals would be happily
accepted.)
1. The Christmas Tsunami of 2004. This disaster occurred on Dec 26,
2004, and killed an estimated 225,000 people around the Indian Ocean rim.
Conventional science ascribes this to a movement of the Earth's crust, with
the displacement causing the sea to innundate coastal areas. It occured in
a series of waves, some being larger than others. Geologists and
Seismologists studied the event, using ordinary scientific practices, and
believe the studies have provided them with a better understanding of
tsunamis, and how they impact land areas.
Scientists have proposed tsunami warning system, similar to those in the
Pacific. Other measures include sea walls, moving villages farther back
from the ocean, etc.
"Super science" would have *prevented* these disasters by offering up
sacrifices to God, preventing homosexuality, and giving tithes to
televangelists.
2. MRSA. A medical acronym for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus
aureus, a variant type of bacteria that has appeared recently and become a
public health hazard. MRSA has become an issue over the last decades, due
to an increase in super infections in hospitals and nursing homes. S.
aureus is a very common species of bacteria, which had, in the past, been
routinely treated with antibiotics. The MRSA variant is resistant to most
antibiotics, including Methicillin, one of the strongest antibioitics.
Scientists, using ordinary science, explain it as the result of overuse
of antibiotics, producing a strong selectional pressure for the population
to evolve a antibiotic resistant variant. They suggest a reduction of
use of antibiotics in general, and development of newer forms of treatments,
better hygene and cleanliness in hospitals and nursing facilities.
"Superscience[TM]" would demonstrate that all diseases are actually
caused by evil demons, and that the only cure is to cast them out into
pigs. Hence MRSA would not be a problem, as no antibiotic (which kills
the life that God made) would ever need to be used.
3. Fossil Fuels. Conventional science explains the presence of fossils
fuels to be due to biomass, buried over vast amounts of time, being
converted to hydrocarbon fuel by heat, pressure, and chemical reactions.
Because these fuels, in the material world, take millienia to form, they are
a finine resource. Although there is a lively discussion among petroleum
scientists, most agree that at present levels of consumption, world
petroleum supplies will be depleted at some point in the not too distant
future. Coal, oil shale, and other forms of fossil fuel are in higher
quantities, but all forms have the problem of carbon dioxide emissions,
which may lead to global temperature increase. The world economies depend
on use of fossil fuels, meaning that simply stopping the use of them is not
practical right now.
Conventional science offers solutions such as renewable energy sources, such
as solar, wind, tidal, ect. These technologies are in their infancies, but
show some promise.
"Superscience[TM, pat pend]" would revert to the advanced technologies
of the ancient Egyptians: "Whips, Rimmer. Really big whips".
So, the question I have for Ray is: How would "super science", freed from
dependence on "materialism" explain, and offer soultions to these
situations?
The floor is yours. You may expound however you wish. I will refrain
from responding myself, but anyone else in the peanut gallery may address
Ray's statements, if any.
Will Ray take the challenge, or shall I cue the crickets?
I trust that I have resolved all your problems and strengthened your
faith in the Ancients and the Wisdom of the Scott.
