I once remember reading somewhere a writing where
a person proposed that the universe did not extend
forever in all directions by putting forth the idea that
since an infinite amount of light is not coming from
all directions, and since stars fill a certain volume of
space, that space cannot be infinite because
every direction we look is not filled with starlight.
This is a false deduction based upon wordplay.
The further in distance one would be receding,
the less area within a field of view would each
star take up. It could in theory produce an upper
bounds upon the density of stars at a distance,
or also mean that they would not extend forever.
Olbers' Paradox.
In an infinite universe, every line of sight eventually ends up at the
surface of a star and the sky would have to be of stellar brightness
everywhere. But it's not; thus the universe is not infinite.

Olberman's Paradox
In a world of infinite stupidity, every line of sight eventually ends up
on the lies of a politician, and the whole world would have to be
totally dumb. But it's not, so stupidity must be limited.
I dunno John. Right now in the US essentially everything
in the newspapers is a politician's lie.
But you still have blogs to read, and The Daily Show.
Sure, and what they talk about ends up eventually being
about the lies of polticians.
Perhaps the politician is indeed the highest form of life
and that's it! After politicians we revert to a lifeless
earth and wait, Buddist-style, for the cycle to repeat.
Yes, I'm feeling a bit pessimistic on this day of investment
house failures. Does nobody see that events have shown that
unbridled or even modestly bridled capitalism always fails?
There is talk here this morning of asking the World Bank for
advisory help, leading possibly to a bail-out.
Perhaps the Russians will save us.
