I suggested this a few years back, that Atheists (even Agnostics)
start redacting the word "god" from all the U$ currency they handle
on a daily basis. Just black it out with a marker or pen. Eventually
the sheer volume of god-redacted bills would get noticed by the
bleaters and thumpers, and send a subtle but clear message, via repetition,
that their pig-ignorant superstitious nonsense is not embraced by
everyone around them.
I often insert the following words over the redacted "god" :
In Greed We Trust
In Superstitious Nonsense We Trust
In Foolish Fairytales We Trust
In Lies We Trust
In Deception We Trust
In Ignorance We Trust
or the alternative deities:
In Satan We Trust
In Allah We Trust
In Odin We Trust
etc
It's a small, modest protest, but one I've found really offends
and annoys some of the most rabid imbeciles out there, especially
when they get handed those bills as change, or when they make
their way into the church collection plate.
Do the US paper dollars remain valid even if you write on them?
Yes, we get all kinds of crap written on them. I think that it is
defacement of federal property though, or something like that.
Hmmm. His vandalism may not qualify:
http://www.bep.treas.gov/document.cfm/18/104
says:
"Defacement of Currency
Defacement of currency is a violation of Title 18, Section 333 of the
United States Code. Under this provision, currency defacement is
generally defined as follows: Whoever mutilates, cuts, disfigures,
perforates, unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any
bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any
national banking association, Federal Reserve Bank, or Federal Reserve
System, with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued, shall
be fined not more than $100 or imprisoned not more than six months, or
both.
Defacement of currency in such a way that it is made unfit for
circulation comes under the jurisdiction of the United States Secret
Service.

The key words there are "with intent to render such item(s) unfit to
be reissued." They do not apply in this case.
