It does. There are zero evidence of recycling.
You can't get clue about the absolute movement of the slab from surface
measurements.
You need additional observations to figure out the absolute motion. And
those observations are clear:
The overriding plate is spreading outward over the older seafloor,
burying the slab in the process:

The overriden slab is not more than a few 1000s km wide (dashed lines)
and certainly not 10,000s km wide as required by Plate tectonics

The absolute motion along the slab is an uplift as indicated by the
fault plane solutions and an analysis of major earthquakes in
"subduction zone" (p5 and following):
