Many mental aberrations are developed early in life and cannot be overcome
by any form of therapy. Most fundamentalist Christian children are taught
to be incurious early in life and never show any interest in learning. They
can be programmed to ignore reality and these conditioned responses are
retained throughout life. Social and cultural traditions reinforce the
conditioning and counter-conditioning is enormously difficult. Many
conditioned individuals encounter frustration and conflict if they try to
interact with individuals or concepts outside their culture.

Yes; that's how I was a raised. Fortunately my mutant super powers
gave me immunity to their brainwashing techniques.

Yet most of the other kids seemed to be quite trainable. I wonder how
much of a genetic component there is to this mindset? The
fundamentalist religions attract the folks predisposed to this way of
thinking, and the few of us who go feral and escape are not. We
already know that religious visions can be identified in many brains
as they have them; and political conservatives can be identified (at
least statistically) when given certain problems to solve - they don't
like ambiguity or changing their mind. I'm pretty sure their brains
are different; if not at birth, by adulthood.

These churches are social, positive feedback loops.
