<Comfortably Numb, by Pink Floyd>
8 For as before the flood are they in their hardness of heart and blindness
of mind and their wickedness and abominations which they, even they, the
common man and woman, the majority, practice in that which they think is the
dark in the which they say, "Who is the Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and
Jacob, of whom we have heard, but do not believe, that we should fear Him?",
even as before the flood, yea in their ignorance of the mysteries, and their
murders, and their fornications, and their lyings, and stealings, and their
mixing with the seed of Cain, the black race, and pride, and unbelief, and
their fossils and their technology, and their false religions, and haughty
carriage, and fashion, and education and vain looks, and their whoredoms,
and their tampering with the life which I the Lord their God have given unto
them, yea their birth-control as before the flood, and their psychology, and
their biology and their false science, and their evolution and their
technology as before the flood:
11 And are we not content and happy?
12 And we fear Him not, for know ye not that we have our teachers and we
have our god which guideth us and giveth us comfort in the night, and
teacheth us of its ways, the ways of the world, yea, even television, and
doth it not teach us the truth, for it is marvelous in our eyes, and it says
nothing concerning thee or thy God who hath spoken unto thee?
Revelations of Jesus Christ 24:8,11-12
21 And others will he pacify, and lull them away into carnal security,
that they will say: All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is
well --
and thus the devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away
carefully down to hell.
22 And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell;
and he saith unto them: I am no devil, for there is none -- and thus he
whispereth in their ears, until he grasps them with his awful chains, from
whence there is no deliverance.
24 Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!
25 Wo be unto him that crieth: All is well!
26 Yea, wo be unto him that hearkeneth unto the precepts of men, and denieth
the power of God, and the gift of the Holy Ghost!

24 ¶ Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me,
let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose
his life for my sake shall find it.
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose
his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
(New Testament | Matthew 16:24 - 26)
Suffering is necessary, yea prerequisite for happiness, even unto
eternal bliss, for it purifies the bearer thereof.
Consider a worldly analogy in this gladiator-like example, by which the seed
of Cain is made acceptable to the Gentile masses --
Why are the Boston Red Sox fans so much more content in a World Series
triumph than New York Yankees fans in their customary celebrations?
Because of a lifetime's worth of failures, esp. coming so close so often.
Boston fans appreciate the sweetness of success, all the more, having tasted
bitterness.
(Forget, for a moment, the fact that professional sports is vanity,
serving merely as an entertaining sideshow to keep the unwary from
realizing their world is falling apart.)
7 The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter
thing is sweet.
(Old Testament | Proverbs 27:7)
14 For the devil appeareth unto thee and hath deceived the whole world,
saith the Lord, with cunning craftiness of men, wherein they lie in wait to
deceive.
15 And it is, saith the Lord, that ye be not deceived, but that ye ascend up
unto me through the gate, who is my servant Art Bulla, whom the world
hateth, for I am his Christ, and am his God.
Revelations of Jesus Christ 69:14-15
6 ... I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be
my salvation unto the end of the earth.
7 Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, [and] his Holy One,
to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth,
to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall
worship,
because of the LORD that is faithful, [and] the Holy One of Israel, and
he shall choose thee.

70 Even so, be diligent and receive whomsoever I send, saith the Lord, and
if ye receive whomsoever I send, ye shall receive me, even Jesus of
Nazareth, whom the world in its pride and wisdom, and its multitude of
creeds and beliefs which are the very chains and fetters of hell, hath not
known.

Brigham Young, on the Lord's Education:
When they are old enough, place within their reach the advantages and
benefits of a scientific education. Let them study the formations of the
earth, the organization of the human system, and other sciences; such a
system of mental culture and discipline in early years is of incalculable
benefit to its possessor in mature years. Take, for instance, the young
ladies now before me, as well as the young men, and form a class in geology,
in chemistry or mineralogy; and do not confine their studies to theory only,
but let them put in practice what they learn from books, by defining the
nature of the soil, the composition of decomposition of a rock, how the
earth was formed, its probable age, and so forth. All these are problems
which science attempts to solve, although some of the views of our great
scholars are undoubtedly very speculative. In the study of the sciences I
have named, our young folks will learn how it is that, in traveling in our
mountains, we frequently see sea shells--shells of the oyster, clam, &c.
Ask our boys and girls now to explain these things, and they are not able to
do so; but establish classes for the study of the sciences, and they will
become acquainted with the various facts they furnish in regard to the
condition of the earth. It is the duty of the Latter-day Saints, according
to the revelations, to give their children the best educations that can be
procured, both from the books of the world and the revelations of the Lord.
If our young men will study the sciences, they will stop riding fast horses
through the streets, and other folly and nonsense which they are now guilty
of, and they will become useful and honorable members of the community.
I have been very much interested of late with regard to the studies and
researches of the geologists who have been investigating the geological
character of the Rocky Mountain country. Professor Marsh, of Yale College,
with a class of his students, has spent, I think, four summers in succession
in the practical study of geology in these mountain regions. What is the
result of his researches? There is one result, so far, that particularly
pleases me. There are some here who know a man by the name of John Hyde,
from London, formerly a member of this Church, who apostatized and went
back; and his great argument against the Book of Mormon was, that it stated
that the old Jaredites and, perhaps, the Nephites, who formerly lived on
this continent, had horses, while it is well known that horses were unknown
to the aboriginal inhabitants of America when it was discovered by Columbus,
and that there were no horses here until they were imported from Europe.
Now, since Professor Marsh and his class began their investigations, they
have found among the fossil remains of the extinct animals of America no
less than fourteen different kinds of horses, varying in height from three
to nine feet. These discoveries made Professor Marsh's students feel almost
as though they could eat up these mountains, and their enthusiasm for
studying the geology of the regions around Bridger's Fort was raised to the
highest pitch. In their researches among these mountains they have formed
the opinion that there was once a large inland sea here, and they think they
have discovered the outlet where the water broke forth and formed Green
River. Here in these valleys and in these ranges of mountains we can follow
the ancient water line. This discovery of Professor Marsh is particularly
pleasing to us "Mormons," because he has so far scientifically demonstrated
the Book of Mormon to be true.

19 And they also had horses, and asses, and there were elephants and
cureloms and cumoms; all of which were useful unto man, and more especially
the elephants and cureloms and cumoms.
(Book of Mormon | Ether 9:19)
Here is the kingdom of God; do you want to enter into it, or not? do you
want the future blessings of this kingdom, or do you not? Have your choice;
but whomsoever you list to obey, his servants you will be whether it is
Jesus or the devil; please yourselves, have your choice. But all know we
can not serve two masters acceptably; if we love one, we shall hate the
other, and if we hold on to one, we shall despise the other. We must either
be for the kingdom of God, or not. But we shall organize this holy order
here before we leave. We give the invitation to all of you to come and get
organized. Let us be one; let us carry out the order that God has
established for the family of heaven.

June 1, 2007:
Now, the not-so-royal road to salvation (i.e., the necessity of suffering)
is actually the optimal path ... the Law of Economy of Heaven. ... It's
based on the individual exercise of free agency, to freely and not be
compelled to choose between good and evil. There was a war in heaven
because of this crucial 'policy-making' dispute between the spirit of
the Firstborn (Christ) and the spirit of Lucifer, who drew away a third of
the spirit male offspring of Michael the Archangel (Adam) ... not one of the
Almighty Gods of heaven, even Jehovah and His numerous Archangels,
spoils His children. If God did, God would cease to be God, for even He
is subject to laws, yea the holy and everlasting laws of the celestial
kingdom,
which organization is founded upon the Order of the Priesthood (government)
of the Son of God, which Holy Order is without beginning or end.
I suspect the reason so many are rebellious, whether openly or ignorantly,
against the requirements of heaven is that though they took the side of God,
yea saith the Lord, in that war in heaven they secretly resented the
doctrine of free agency being of the economy of heaven, and though these
numerous spirit children of our Holy Archangel of Jehovah managed to avoid
the fate of being born in the flesh in the African lineage, whether they be
fair skinned or of swarthier complexion, being allowed to imagine that
there is no Supreme Being, that they be tested but more accurately speaking,
to be shown unto themselves their own true characters, for the Great I Am
hath foreknowledge, even unto proving themselves lovers of the everlasting
truth or not. Lucifer, though exceedingly intelligent, arrogantly opposed
self-government according to the unchanging laws of God's Priesthood and
insisted that everyone can and should be brought back to the celestial
kingdom. Lucifer's reasoning became popular with many spirit offspring of
God. Some openly sided with Lucifer and became devils upon being cast out, a
third (decreed to be without bodies to clothe their spirits and to try and
tempt the ones permitted to take on bodies of flesh and blood on this earth)
of the male spirits of the God, Michael the Archangel, while others sided
with Lucifer in their hearts, to one degree or another.
<Sympathy for the Devil, by The Rolling Stones>
A person demonstrates his or her true character by his or her deeds in the
flesh, according to the heart's innermost thoughts and desires, when it
appears no one is watching. Freely exercise not only intelligence
but also humility and integrity, for yea, there is God.
James Clerk Maxwell, one who sided with Christ,
wrote on 31st October 1876:
By pursuing what we feel to be pleasant, and avoiding what we feel to be
painful, we are following a course which was probably followed by many of
our ancestors, and of which we know at least this much -- that it did not
bring
them to such speedy destruction as to prevent them from leaving us as their
descendants; and this is more than we can say for any absolutely new rule of
life struck out by ourselves.
But it must be confessed that the monitions of pleasure and pain are not
held in such high esteem by all men, as the view which we have just taken
would seem to warrant. For though here and there we may find an isolated
teacher who has inculcated the cultivation of all forms of pleasurable
sensation, and the elimination of whatever is disagreeable, [447] yet there
has never been a state of society in which it has not been reckoned more
honourable
To scorn delights and live laborious days,
than to run after pleasure and to shrink from pain.
And this brings me to the main point for our consideration. Why is it that
in all times and countries the endurance of pain has been looked upon with
great respect, and has been considered necessary, salutary, honourable, or
meritorious? There is no difficulty, of course, about those cases in which a
person undertakes some enterprise, good in itself, and in pursuance of this
enterprise meets with various forms of suffering. These are only instances
of the general maxim to despise evils of a lower order when they stand in
the way of some good of a higher order.
The ability to endure suffering while engaged in a good work being
recognised as a species of excellence, it is only natural that this kind of
ability should become the subject of special cultivation. The aspirant to
this form of virtue, therefore, voluntarily submits himself to suffering,
not for the sake of any visible benefit to himself and others to be obtained
by enduring that particular pain, but for the sake of discipline.
The aim of discipline is that he himself, and still more that others, may
have confidence that he is able to endure suffering in a good cause, because
he has already endured suffering merely to justify this confidence.
Practices of this kind have in some countries been developed to an
extravagant degree, and may have given rise to various abnormal sentiments
and maxims; but in the principle of educational discipline there is nothing
but the soundest wisdom, for the only way in which an individual can acquire
confidence that he can perform a given act when he wishes to do so is by
previous practice; and when it is necessary for the public good that there
should be a body of men, of each of whom we can be sure that he will act in
a particular manner when the occasion for it arrives, it is absolutely
necessary that they should be drilled to an exercise as like as [448]
possible to the action which is expected of them. But in all this the
inconvenience or suffering which has to be endured is by no means regarded
as good in itself. It is treated as a necessary concomitant of the act to be
performed, just as muscular effort, which may sometimes arise to the
intensity of a pain, is a necessary concomitant of an athletic exercise in
which we may find pleasure.
Indeed the pleasurable or painful character of an elementary sensation or
thought cannot be determined without taking into account all its
surroundings. A sensation or a thought when separated from its surroundings
may be disagreeable or painful; but when it occurs as a part of an act of
perception, we may not recognise it as painful.
There may even be a pleasurable complex emotion into which the painful
elementary sensation enters as an essential ingredient, so that if on any
occasion the painful sensation is deficient, we feel that the pleasurable
emotion is thereby marred and rendered incomplete.

39 And it must needs be that the devil should tempt the children of men,
or they could not be agents unto themselves; for if they never should have

(Doctrine and Covenants | Section 29:39)
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people,
that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her
plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her
iniquities.
6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according
to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much
torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and
am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and
famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong [is] the Lord
God who judgeth her.
(New Testament | Revelation 18:4 - 8)
*The Life of James Clerk Maxwell* (1882),
by Campbell and Garnett:
During the last few weeks his sufferings were very great, but he seldom
mentioned them; and, apart from his anxiety for others, his mind was
absolutely calm. ...
When too weak to dwell on those scientific inquiries which had been the work
of his life, his mind continued active about many of his favourite studies.
.... At another time, when continuous conversation had become impossible, and
he had been lying for some time with closed eyes, he looked up and repeated
the verse, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above," etc., and
then added -- "Do you know that that is a hexameter? <Greek snipped>.
I wonder who composed it?" ...
The fortitude with which he bore his sufferings, and the calm
self-possession with which he met his end, impressed those most who watched
him most narrowly, and had the best reason to know the acuteness of his
sufferings.
16 Wherefore, the Lord God gave unto man that he should act for himself.
Wherefore, man could not act for himself save it should be that he was
enticed by the one or the other.
17 And I, Lehi, according to the things which I have read, must needs
suppose that an angel of God, according to that which is written, had fallen
from heaven; wherefore, he became a devil, having sought that which was evil
before God.
18 And because he had fallen from heaven, and had become miserable forever,
he sought also the misery of all mankind. ...
(Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 2:16 - 18)
36 And it came to pass that Adam, being tempted of the devil -- for, behold,
the devil was before Adam, for he rebelled against me, saying, Give me thine
honor, which is my power; and also a third part of the hosts of heaven
turned he away from me because of their agency;
37 And they were thrust down, and thus came the devil and his angels;
38 And, behold, there is a place prepared for them from the beginning,
which place is hell.
(Doctrine and Covenants | Section 29:36 - 38)
The wicked were rebellious in their hearts against my Father's plan of
salvation by the exercise of free agency, or freely choosing between
good and evil, saith the Lord.
(Oct. 12, 2007)
1 And I, the Lord God, spake unto Moses, saying: That Satan, whom thou hast
commanded in the name of mine Only Begotten, is the same which was from the
beginning, and he came before me, saying -- Behold, here am I, send me, I
will
be thy son, and I will redeem all mankind, that one soul shall not be lost,
and surely I will do it; wherefore give me thine honor.
2 But, behold, my Beloved Son, which was my Beloved and Chosen from the
beginning, said unto me -- Father, thy will be done, and the glory be thine
forever.
3 Wherefore, because that Satan rebelled against me, and sought to destroy
the agency of man, which I, the Lord God, had given him, and also, that I
should give unto him mine own power; by the power of mine Only Begotten, I
caused that he should be cast down;
4 And he became Satan, yea, even the devil, the father of all lies,
to deceive and to blind men, and to lead them captive at his will,
even as many as would not hearken unto my voice.
(Pearl of Great Price | Moses 4:1 - 4)
22 Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the intelligences that were
organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the
noble and great ones;
23 And God saw these souls that they were good, and he stood in the midst of
them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he stood among those
that were spirits, and he saw that they were good; and he said unto me:
Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.
24 And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and he said unto
those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we
will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may
dwell;
25 And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things
whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;
26 And they who keep their first estate shall be added upon; and they who
keep not their first estate shall not have glory in the same kingdom with
those who keep their first estate; and they who keep their second estate
shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever.
27 And the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son
of Man: Here am I, send me. And another answered and said: Here am I, send
me. And the Lord said: I will send the first.
28 And the second was angry, and kept not his first estate; and, at that
day, many followed after him.
(Pearl of Great Price | Abraham 3:22 - 28)
1 Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O
ye sons of men?
2 Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in
the earth.
3 The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be
born, speaking lies.
(Old Testament | Psalms 58:1 - 3)
58 For this is life eternal, to know thee, the Only True God, and thy Sons
whom thou hast sent.
59 Even so, hearken unto me and obey, and I the Lord God shall lift thee up,
even as upon wings of eagles, and shall testify that these things are of me,
even Jesus, whom the world in its depravity and wickedness hateth.
Revelations of Jesus Christ 10:58-59
25 ¶ And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto
them,
26 If any [man] come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife,
and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he
cannot be my disciple.
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my
disciple.
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and
counteth the cost, whether he have [sufficient] to finish [it]?
29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish
[it], all that behold [it] begin to mock him,
30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down
first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that
cometh against him with twenty thousand?
32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage,
and desireth conditions of peace.
33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath,
he cannot be my disciple.
(New Testament | Luke 14:25 - 33)
25 And this we saw also, and bear record, that an angel of God who was in
authority in the presence of God, who rebelled against the Only Begotten Son
whom the Father loved and who was in the bosom of the Father, was thrust
down from the presence of God and the Son,
26 And was called Perdition, for the heavens wept over him -- he was
Lucifer,
a son of the morning.
27 And we beheld, and lo, he is fallen! is fallen, even a son of the
morning!
28 And while we were yet in the Spirit, the Lord commanded us that we should
write the vision; for we beheld Satan, that old serpent, even the devil, who
rebelled against God, and sought to take the kingdom of our God and his
Christ --
29 Wherefore, he maketh war with the saints of God, and encompasseth them
round about.
30 And we saw a vision of the sufferings of those with whom he made war and
overcame, for thus came the voice of the Lord unto us:
31 Thus saith the Lord concerning all those who know my power, and have been
made partakers thereof, and suffered themselves through the power of the
devil to be overcome, and to deny the truth and defy my power --
[The Holy Ghost bore record, as I glanced at the words of
the verses 30 and 31, on Nov. 6, 2007 at 9:15 pm.]
32 They are they who are the sons of perdition, of whom I say that it had
been better for them never to have been born;
33 For they are vessels of wrath, doomed to suffer the wrath of God, with
the devil and his angels in eternity;
34 Concerning whom I have said there is no forgiveness in this world nor in
the world to come-
35 Having denied the Holy Spirit after having received it, and having denied
the Only Begotten Son of the Father, having crucified him unto themselves
and put him to an open shame.
36 These are they who shall go away into the lake of fire and brimstone,
with the devil and his angels-
37 And the only ones on whom the second death shall have any power;
38 Yea, verily, the only ones who shall not be redeemed in the due time of
the Lord, after the sufferings of his wrath.
39 For all the rest shall be brought forth by the resurrection of the dead,
through the triumph and the glory of the Lamb, who was slain, who was in the
bosom of the Father before the worlds were made.
40 And this is the gospel, the glad tidings, which the voice out of the
heavens bore record unto us-
41 That he came into the world, even Jesus, to be crucified for the world,
and to bear the sins of the world, and to sanctify the world, and to cleanse
it from all unrighteousness;
42 That through him all might be saved whom the Father had put into his
power and made by him;
43 Who glorifies the Father, and saves all the works of his hands, except
those sons of perdition who deny the Son after the Father has revealed him.
44 Wherefore, he saves all except them-they shall go away into everlasting
punishment, which is endless punishment, which is eternal punishment, to
reign with the devil and his angels in eternity, where their worm dieth not,
and the fire is not quenched, which is their torment-
45 And the end thereof, neither the place thereof, nor their torment, no man
knows;
46 Neither was it revealed, neither is, neither will be revealed unto man,
except to them who are made partakers thereof;
47 Nevertheless, I, the Lord, show it by vision unto many, but straightway
shut it up again;
48 Wherefore, the end, the width, the height, the depth, and the misery
thereof, they understand not, neither any man except those who are ordained
unto this condemnation.
49 And we heard the voice, saying: Write the vision, for lo, this is the end
of the vision of the sufferings of the ungodly.
(Doctrine and Covenants | Section 76:25 - 49)
34 And wo be unto him that will not hearken unto the words of Jesus, and
also to them whom he hath chosen and sent among them; for whoso receiveth
not the words of Jesus and the words of those whom he hath sent receiveth
not him; and therefore he will not receive them at the last day;
35 And it would be better for them if they had not been born. For do ye
suppose that ye can get rid of the justice of an offended God, who hath been
trampled under feet of men, that thereby salvation might come?
(Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 28:34 - 35)
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers,
walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell
asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of the
creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the
heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the
water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in
store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of
ungodly men.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day [is] with
the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness;
but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but
that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which
the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt
with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be
burned up.

From Publishers Weekly
In a work of majestic sweep and bold speculation, Nobel Prize-winning
biochemist de Duve presents an awesome panorama of life on Earth, from the
first biomolecules to the emergence of the human mind and our species'
future. Professor emeritus at Manhattan's Rockefeller University, de Duve
rejects the view that life arose through a series of accidents, nor does he
invoke God, goal-directed causes or vitalism, which regards living beings as
matter animated by vital spirit. Instead, in a remarkable synthesis of
biochemistry, paleontology, evolutionary biology, genetics and ecology, he
argues for a meaningful universe in which life and mind emerged, inevitably
and deterministically, because of prevailing conditions. Starting with a
single-celled organism, resembling modern bacteria, which appeared 3.8
billion years ago and gave rise to all forms of life on earth today, de Duve
delineates seven successive ages corresponding to increasing levels of
complexity. He predicts that our species may evolve into a "human hive" or
planetary superorganism, a society in which individuals would abandon some
of their freedom for the benefit of all; alternately, if Homo sapiens
disappears, he envisages our replacement by another intelligent species.

have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and
whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
(New Testament | Revelation 14:9 - 11)
33 For behold, there is a wo pronounced upon him who listeth to obey that
spirit; for if he listeth to obey him, and remaineth and dieth in his sins,
the same drinketh damnation to his own soul; for he receiveth for his wages
an everlasting punishment, having transgressed the law of God contrary to
his own knowledge.
36 And now, I say unto you, my brethren, that after ye have known and have
been taught all these things, if ye should transgress and go contrary to
that which has been spoken, that ye do withdraw yourselves from the Spirit
of the Lord, that it may have no place in you to guide you in wisdom's paths
that ye may be blessed, prospered, and preserved --
37 I say unto you, that the man that doeth this, the same cometh out in open
rebellion against God; therefore he listeth to obey the evil spirit, and
becometh an enemy to all righteousness; therefore, the Lord has no place in
him, for he dwelleth not in unholy temples.
(Book of Mormon | Mosiah 2:33,36-37)
2 And it is my will that ye hearken even unto my words as they come unto
thee in this manner, saith the Lord God of Israel, and behold, who is it
that shall mock my words as they are given unto thee?
3 For these are they who shall taste of my wrath, both in this world and in
the world to come.
4 Even so, hearken unto me, saith the Lord, that ye may understand what it
is that ye must do to be obedient unto me, and thereby gain the salvation of
your soul, which is precious unto me.
5 Yea thus saith the Lord, shall the clay say unto him that fashioneth it,
what makest thou, or shall the work say, He hath no hands?
6 Even so, the children of men deny me, even at this time and say who art
thou that we should learn of thee and thy ways?
7 And they say amongst themselves, who is the Lord God, that we should fear
him?
8 For these things are of an ancient date, and what is it that we who live
in the blaze of light which is modern have to fear of him who hath spoken as
in times of old?
9 For it is that we no longer believe in this manner for are we not free
from the delusions of our fathers?
10 And thus we are not bound down by anything which is vain and foolish, for
we no longer believe.
11 Thus saith the Lord, wo! wo! unto such, for shall they escape my wrath in
this day, when my mighty ones come, saith the Lord?
12 Even so, it is my will, saith the Lord, that ye forsake that evil one,
who through disobedience taketh away light and truth, for light and truth
forsake that evil one.
13 And light hath come into the world and they choose darkness, rather than
light, for their deeds are evil, saith the Lord.
14 And I the Lord God call unto them from out of the heavens, and they hear
me not, but they turn their faces away from me, because their deeds, are
they not evil?
15 And why are they evil?
16 Because they, are they not children of disobedience, saith the Lord?
Revelations of Jesus Christ 10:2-16
Journal of Discourses, Vol.8, Pg.129, Brigham Young, July 22, 1860:
My brother Joseph, before "Mormonism" came to us, was a man of sad heart,
seeking to find in the Bible the principles of eternal life. He once said
to me, "Brother Brigham, there are no Bible Christians upon the face of the
earth, and I do not see any possible escape for the human family. According
to the writings of the Old and New Testaments, all must go to perdition." I
do not suppose that he had a smile on his countenance for years.
20 For it was that them before the flood obtained promise of deliverance in
the resurrection from hell, which shall not be given unto this generation,
saith the Lord, for thou hast also blasphemed against the Holy Ghost, O
liberal man and woman, which they did not do before the flood.
Revelations of Jesus Christ 24:20
15 For they who believe in change, or evolution as it is known among men,
shall be damned and burned at my coming, while those whose hearts are turned
even unto the Fathers according to the truth, which varies not, shall be
saved upon eternal principles, and obtain heaven which is eternal, and dwell
forever with them, the Fathers, where there is no clash in doctrine, saith
the Lord, for they, even they my Sons, see perfectly, even with the same
mind, and understanding, even eye to eye as it is written when the Lord
shall bring again Zion.
16 Thus the Fathers have been saved according to the same gospel which must
save thee, O man, and upon the same principles which are consistent, which
is the light, even the same light that enlighteneth thy eyes, saith the Most
High God, even the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Art Bulla, whom ye know
not, Yea but I know him, saith the Lord, and have ordained that he shall
bear rule over thee, forever and ever, as mine anointed.
17 While they, even they who believe in change, shall they not die, and be
dissolved back into the dust that they lose their identities?
18 For they are liars and are sons of the father of lies, even perdition,
and have denied the truth.
19 For they have denied the light and they have denied the spirit of
revelation found within my servant that they crucify the Lord God of Israel
afresh.
20 For this is denial of the Holy Ghost, yea, even thy sciences are
organized according to this blasphemy, and are based upon the lie that all
things which are eternal are denied by them, that there is no absolute
truth.
Revelations of Jesus Christ 159:15-20
1 Thus saith the Lord, Yea, there is that second death which pertaineth unto
the destruction of the spirit of man in that hell spoken of, for it is that
spirit shall return unto the native element from which it was formed or
begotten by me in that day, saith the Lord God.
2 And it is that this death cometh upon all those who deny me in this day,
saith the Lord God.
3 And it is that this death cometh upon all those who deny me and persist
therein and who will not repent, neither can they, saith the Lord God of
Israel who it is that doth speak unto thee, O man, whom I the Lord God have
created in mine own image, even the image of mine Only Begotten Son have I
created thee.
4 For it is that these are they who have denied the Holy Ghost and for whom
there is no salvation.
5 And the resurrection shall come upon all but these who are sons of
perdition, and the end thereof no man knoweth save he or she shall be
made a partaker thereof, and the height or the depth or the misery thereof
no man knoweth, nevertheless I the Lord God show it by vision unto many and
shut it up straightway again.
6 And all who deny these things, saith the Lord, shall partake of that
second death and they shall not escape my wrath which shall be poured out
upon them that they be utterly annihilated back to the native element from
which they are formed.
7 For all, saith the Lord, who deny these Revelations which I the Lord God
have caused to be put into the world as a witness of me shall deny the
Spirit and shall not be redeemed in the resurrection but shall go away into
that lake of fire with the devil and his angels and there their torment is
as a flame.
8 For mine anger, saith the Lord shall even be spent upon them, in my
terrible fury and might which cannot be stopped by man in the flesh, and
their worm dieth not, and the flame thereof ascendeth up forever and is not
quenched until they die, saith the Lord, even the Second Death, according to
that torment of which hath been written.
9 For I the Lord thy God shall not be mocked by them who are under my feet
in that day that the earth shall be redeemed, even from the fall thereof.
10 Even so, beware how thou holdest the oracles of God! For it must be unto
this generation, saith the Lord on the one hand, even as it is one the
other, even Eternal Life, and the fruits thereof, or Death and its portion
on the other, and ye of this generation are free before me, saith the Lord,
to choose, either life in my presence, or the second death in the presence
of him whom ye served deliciously, even that devil spoken of.
11 And if it is that ye hearken, saith the Lord, and are obedient unto my
servant in these things which he shall command thee in my name, saith the
Lord, by the Authority Of The Holy Priesthood Which Is After The Order Of
Melchizedec, then it is that the second death shall have no power over thee.
12 And it is that if ye are obedient, saith the Lord, in all things, then it
is that ye shall be redeemed also from the fall and dwell with me and my
angels in regions of bliss and light forever and ever.
13 And it is that the first death, which is the death of the body which is
physical, shall not have power over thee at all.
14 For it is that ye shall become quickened by me and by my power, saith the
Lord, which power is after the Order of an Endless Life.
15 For I the Lord thy God am the creator and Father of all life and all life
is in me, that thy body, O man, is changed and quickened that it shall never
die, if it be that ye are obedient unto me through him whom I have appointed
and ordained unto this power through the ministration of messengers or
angels from my presence, saith the Lord God of Israel, as anciently.
16 And this is according to the pattern of that which I the Lord God did
unto Enoch and the City thereof as recorded in the eleventh chapter of the
Book of Hebrews by the hand of my servant Paul, who is now with me, saith
the Lord, in the might and power of my glory which is beyond the mind of man
to comprehend in the fulness thereof.
17 Even so. Amen.
Revelations of Jesus Christ 43:1-17
28 ¶ Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart:
and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.
(New Testament | Matthew 11:28 - 30)
