No. Extinction is only possible, not probably. You do know the difference?
Of course I know the difference!
It might mean a lot less humans using a lot less technology, butBut it would, and that's the problem.
I seriously doubt that a warming earth....even to the point of no ice
anywhere, would cause us to go extinct......
Cites and proof for this mere assertion, please?
we will simply number inWait... No more air conditioning? This just gets better and better!
the tens of millions and go back to throwing spears and running to
make a living.
So instead of just making a joke about it, how about trying to prove why
Ken's hypothesis of only reversion to stone age instead of extinction is
impossible? Or, at the very least, why it is less probable than extinction.
Ok, let me take a crack at it:
Global warming = rising temperature = high panic among humans = quick
mutations among humans = but we can't mutate that fast = extinct
species Homo sapiens
No, wait...
No...what?!?!
You make no sense. We humans got along quite nicely for many, many
millenia with a stone-aged technology. Our brains and body plan have
allowed us to adapt [culturally] very quickly to the changing
environments that we have found ourselves in for quite a long time.
The threat of climate change, or more to the point, climate change
that happens too quickly for our technology to cope with, may result
in catastrophic breakdown of some of our technology. We may also see
large migrations inland from coastal areas that become flooded and
other from other areas that become uninhabitable. Many, many people
will die if this comes to pass.....in the worst case, our technology
and social order will break down completely and billions will perish.
Extinction though? I can't see that as even a remote
possibility....unless the US decides to nuke the planet rather than
lose control......but by that time Dubya will be out of office and
hopefully the US will be ruled by someone with a little more
intelligence.
