Actually you're wrong. There is absolutely no problem for the
future. Pick up this months Popular Mechanics magazine. In it, in the
letters section, is a picture of car. It goes up to 65 miles per hour
and also travels 125 miles per fill. Per fill of air, that is. And
soon it will be sold in India. When desperate times kick in you can
bet that this or some other vehiclel will be available in the US.
Ah yes here is that little gem

The car runs on compressed air. Now how do you get compressed air? Why
from the atmosphere of course, it's free, there is a virtually an endless
supply. Except that you need energy to do the compressing.
Where is the source of energy that is "no problem for the future"?
This type of engine (like hydrogen or electric power) gives you more
options about where the energy comes from because you don't have to burn
petroleum. You can use electricity to run your compressor (or make
hydrogen) but the electricity will mostly come from burning coal this year
and for many years yet. As Tweedy points out coal is a finite resource.
You can try to wriggle out by claiming that one day we will have abundant
nuclear, solar, wind or whatever power to produce enough electricity but for
now and a long time you are just plain wrong. Or are you suggesting that
the change to such alternative sources of energy or alternative delivery
mechanisms will be done without problems?
In case anybody doubted the very superficial nature of your analytical
powers this simple example from the everyday world puts it beyond doubt.
