Sorry, Google messed up on me, so I had to cut and paste this in a newevidence
thread:
Now it is a fact that the YEC 'theor has nothing going for it; all
inconsistentshows that any and all attempts at creating a YEC scenario are
itwith the facts. Unless you want to posit that God made it look the way
thelooks just for fun.
True, that is why I don't hold to the YEC theory.
Into this storytelling old adventure stories also were incorporated, and
they were told as being as credible as the heroic epics. The motif in
thestory about Joseph and the wife of Potifar for instance is copied from
Egyptian fairytale "The two Brothers".
The false assumption you are making, is contained in the word
"copied."
Did it ever occur to you that both the Egyptian tale, and the Hebrew
one, were both handed down orally..... from an actual event?
In other words, an actual event happened..... it was handed down
orally and got slightly corrupted in the Egyptian version..... but
both the Egyptian and the Hebrew tale are based oral retellings of
actual events?
You see, in a court of law, when you have two witnesses, it lends
credibility to the story. But then we are supposed to believe, that
when studying history, if there are multiple witnesses, this means the
story was fabricated or "copied?" Non-sequitur alert!
Yes, so the story of Noah really is true, both Noah and his family are the
witnesses.
Of old an enmity existed between the semi-nomadic sheepherders and the
Bedouins. In the production of myths, the sheepherders therefore made a
story
"Made a story" is your false assumption here. Rather, the event
occurred, was handed down orally, and got slightly corrupted in the
Egyptian version.
Says you.
madebecause of murdering his brother. We recognize the story about Cain and
Abel. They then equipped Adam and Eve with a third son, Set, who was
god-fearing and straight enough to be the one they themselves descended
from.
Not only do we "recognize" the story. The Egyptian version lends
credibility to the Old Testament version, exactly like more than one
witness lends validity to court testimony.
The story of Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel - and Set - an Egyptian story??
the
Thus life was created on Earth. Contrary to that, in Babylon floods were
dangerous problem.Their creation myth, that also became know by the
Israelites and incorporated into their folklore,
Ah, I see. "Incorporated into their folklore." Yet another sneaky
phrase, in which your hidden assumption that there was not actual
event, is snuck in under cover of fancy words.
It is your assumption that it was an actual event. My interpretation makes
sense.
Unfortunately for you, if the event actually occurred, you would neverBlah blah.
know it, because you are proceeding with an unwarrented assumption
that no matter what, the flood event "automatically" did not happen.
And what is most ridiculous, is it appears that your denial-assumption
is based upon the idea that multiple witnesses to an event make the
event LESS likely to be true. Wow, try that one down at the local
courthouse!
> they might have been created was of no concern to them. So
therefore, there
was no problem for Cain to find a wife.
There was no problem for Cain to find a wife, becaue he got one from
the Nephilim, IMHO.
like
Most of the myths in Genesis are older than the immigration of the
Israelites. They had been part of the tribal traditions for a long time.
Yep. Because they had actually occurred. You see, events that actually
occur have a tendency to become part of tribal traditions for a long
time. I've noticed this pattern, shocking though it may be.
Their concept of God also was quite different. The patriarchs knew gods
aboutEl-sjaddai and Elohim, and neither Abram, Isaac or Jacob knew anything
godMoses' new creation, Yahweh. According to 2. Mos. 3, Moses asked the new
patriarchwhat he should be called, and the god replied: "I am who I am."
Ah, another sneaky little phrase. "Moses' new creation."
Did it ever occur to you, that perhaps God had not chosen to reveal
his favorite name until this point in time? Why does He have to reveal
his truest name at the earliest possible moment?
YHWH is his truest name, because it means He is the Ground of
Existence Itself, The Being of Beings, the Existence of Existence. I
AM that I AM. He does not have to reveal this directly to Abraham,
although God certainly did make clear that YHWH is identical with the
God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
leaves no doubt that it is a new, hitherto unknown god that is being
introduced, but history has made him identical with the god of the
's.
On the contrary, the very same God revealed himself to Adam, Abraham,
and all the rest. The only thing clear from this narrative is that God
first revealed his favorite (and best) name to Moses. To reveal your
favorite name for yourself, is not the same as introducing your actual
self for the first time. A person's actual self is not absolutely
identical with the favorite name that they happen to enjoy being
called. Surely you can see this? Do you understand the concept of a
"nickname?" What about the concept of an "alias?"
I recommend that you check your unwarranted assumptions. Get back to
me after you have strengthened them with legitimate foundations.
I stand by what I have written.
You assume that if the Bible recounts a tale much older than the biblical
scripture, that show the story is true, that it actually happened, that we
now have two witnesses.
Do you really think that a court will accept hearsay as another witness?
There, wrong on that account.
The simple fact is, that one cannot take the bible at face value. Look at
the Law of Moses. much of it is lifted alomst verbatim from Hammurabi,
centuries before Moses. Should we belive that God spoke the words of
Hammurabi into Moes's ears?
No debate is poosible when the words of the bible are taken as the ultimate
authority - interepreted as preferred.
"The truest name of God!" what BS!
God has no name, that is the point.
As a true apologist, you need not say more. People like you believe what you
want to believe and do your tricks with words to make the world conform to
your faih. As lomg as you are happy in your faith that is well and fine. I
just wish all of you would keep your 'knowledge' to yourselves.
