It seems ok?

Please let me know in email (I spent a day or so away from emails, sorry).

Google isn't archiving properly either. And I might add it's rather
inefficient to get around (unlike how it used to be.) You used to be
able to click onto talk.origin easily but now you have to type in the
"view profile" then click on talk.origin. It's an unfriendly system.

I use it in emergencies or to check propagation. But yeah, the changes
they've made over time really slowly crippled it, haven't they. :P

I wish I had a suggestion for a reliable free alternative, but I don't
know any - I'm obviously in an unique position, since I have a unix box
with my own newsfeed.

If anyone has any suggestions?

It is possible to have Thunderbird on a USB thumb drive, and plug it in to any online computer with a USB port. Thunderbird runs off the thumb drive, and doesn't do a thing to the host computer--including leaving tracks, I'm told.

You may have to use a Portable App version of Thunderbird; but that may help some folks bypass Google Groups when away from home.

There may be (actually I'm certain that there are) systems that won't allow the use of USB drives. I know of a couple of libraries and our county government's sooper-sekure system (which went down for several months a couple of years ago; and because they did not allow people to back up their work, the county basically shut down for that time). But this little trick may work for some.
