The point is that we DON'T call ANCIENT Miacidae or

We still call them mammals.
But the point is we don't call them cats or dogs, do we?
The word "mammal" is conceptually no
different from "cat" or "dog," merely more inclusive.
Duh...THAT'S the bloody point! 'Bird' is like 'cat' or 'dog'.
No, it is not. "Bird" is like "mammal." "Eagle" or "vulture" are
like "cat" or "dog."
I said "most people" would not consider them so. I gave you a list,
and said that if I asked people to cross off the list the ones that
did not belong, they would keep
'bird', 'dog', and 'cat' while rejecting 'mammal'..
Irrelevant. "Bird" is much more like "mammal" than like "dog."
Not to most people. Ask them!
Who gives a *** about most people.
This isn't something minor that we vote on.
This is important.
I decide.
You shut up.
"Most people" determine usage.
Which is why you are wrong. Most people agree that bird is a category
like mammal instead of like dog. Most people agree that Archaeopteryx
is a bird. Most people agree that humans are apes and baboons aren't
apes. Most people agree that spiders aren't insects. Most people
correctly think that people who disagree with the above statements are
morons.
Will is putting on a brave front of "I'd rather be right than
popular", but in this case Will is correct AND Will is in the
majority.
I don't mind being right, although it is not a familiar sensation.
However, if I am in the majority, I demand a recount.
