Ed has been perma-banned, since he's refused to stop trying to
disrupt the group year after year. In spite of this he has kept
trying to evade the ban.

Ed is a customer of Verizon.net.

His current posting IP is 71.241.127.241, which belongs to
Verizon Internet Services, Inc. I have blocked this IP but he will
eventually get around it.

I have emailed ab...@xxxxxxxxxxx with a request that his account be
revoked
for repeated violation of Verizon's Newsgroup Policy:

"Newsgroup Posting Policy
It is a violation of Verizon policy to add messages to newsgroups 1)
that
are clearly inappropriate given the intended purpose or scope of the
newsgroup, including adding commercial postings to newsgroups of a
non-commercial nature, or 2) in a manner that is clearly excessive and
intended to annoy or harass. Subscribers that Verizon determines to be
in violation of this policy shall be subject to immediate termination
of service without prior notice, or immediate suspension of service
without
prior notice pending results of an investigation."

The email I sent in generated an auto-response with a ticket ID of

[AB-C3466624Y]

Anyone wishing to chip in their $0.02 as to Ed's abusive posting
behaviour
on talk.origins should make sure to include the ticket info or they can
open their own complaint.

I've frankly had it with being nice to Ed and stuffing him back in his
box every time he slimes his way out. I am *requesting* people to
complain to Verizon as Ed has *clearly* been breaking the latter
condition
of his AUP for *years*.

In short, I want his head. And you all will help me get it.

Thanks David, t.o is by no means the only newsgroup that Ed harrasses,
but
it is one of the few that are moderated. Your efforts are
appreciated--by
the sane, at least.

I think the sane would realize that anyone can report a poster to his
ISP, and also perhaps wondering why moderation is necessary or
practical, since ISPs can and do terminate users who violate their
rules, and their rules appear to be similar to the ones that David
seems to want to enforce. But unless he reviews each post before it is
sent off, spam will be seen, and so it is. T.O. has experienced
several examples of this recently. It may be that eliminating further
spamming by individuals is quicker by having a moderator instead of
relying on ISPs, but it true that individuals can hide their identity
as ED has apparently done today and circumvent David's filter, and so
now he is compelled to to the very thing that anyone in an unmoderated
group could do.

I see the benifit of auto moderation, xposting limits. But what
benefit is moderation, if not for content?

Sheldon,

DIG is not censoring Ed, because Ed is free to spam and abuse non-moderated
groups as much as he wants and can get away with (and he wants to do this
plenty). To see the results of such abuse of others, you only have to look
at groups such as sci.astro, where Ed and his pals (like ultimate net-loon
Dan*** M*n) have made the group virtually unreadable. They frequently
nym-shift to avoid having their contributions blocked by the users'
newsreading software.

David, as moderator, is trying to maintain talk.origins as a place for
discussion, according to its charter. Imagine having a live debate, and
some loon with dirt in his hair and spittle flying from his lips barges into
the hall during your contribution and starts to shout down all the debaters
with obscene abuse. David is combining the roles of sergeant-at-arms and
the man in the white coats.

If Ed sent in one or two abusive posts per day DIG would probably let it
slide. Like the rest of us, yesterday he got fed up with the avalanche of
abusive posts. Of course, if you enjoy seeing multiple abusive posts from a
classic net-loon, that's your privilege and you will have to go elsewhere.

So, did you actually read Ed's postings?
