Hilton released from jail because of unspecified medical problem

LOS ANGELES - After only three days behind bars, Paris Hilton traded
a 12-by-8-foot cell for her 2,700-square-foot Hollywood Hills home
when she was released early Thursday because of an unspecified
medical condition.

P.S. The "medical condition" is, according to other media sources
I've read and listened to, that she was just too stressed out by
being in the slam. This was the conclusion reached by her own
psychiatrist, who then pleaded her case with the sheriff's
department. Poor Paris.

While the Judge has ordered her to appear, they can't really hold the
Sherriff responsible. The Judge gave her special treatment, a
celebrity cell in a celebrity cellblock. When you consider that a
sherriff's deputy gets $50 an hour, that's $1,200 a day just to staff
the cellblock with one deputy. By the time you add in meals and
support staff, it's got to be over $2,000 a day. The Sherriff's budget
can't afford to take a hit like that... it was cheaper to slap on an
ankle bracelet and send her home. This is California, where we empty
the prisons when they're overcrowded or not cost effective.

Here's my bold plan- legalize pot and save the jail space for people
who actually do bad things to other people. I realize this would cut
into organized crime's profits, but sometimes you just have to take
one for the team.

Legalize it, and tax it like cigarettes. In one sweep you will go from
a major expenditure for the government to becoming a major money maker.
Instead of all the criminals getting the money for it, the government
and private industries get it. Along with the added advantage of the
shifting the focus of the war on drug to the drugs that are actually
causing real problems.
