Who said that in a movie, and in what movie?
Why is this relevant to talk.origings?
I take that you understand this.
About the answer, you may want it, but you may not get it...
First the appetizer, that has been touched on by John Wilkins, more
explicitly, if you look at the top of google groups in talk.origins,
you'll see the following,
"Description: Evolution versus creationism (sometimes hot!).
(Moderated)"
It should be obvious; look inside the ()!
Not everyone uses google groups. I have two seperate applications, Thoth
and MacSoup that I use for reading groups depending on the purpose of
the group.
Now the main course,
As I said, you may want to know the answer, but you may not get it.
"Christianity has a book, called the Bible, which is authorative for
all Christians. Agree? Now, Christians sell the promise that if you
believe in Jesus, who is described in the Bible, you will get to
Heaven,
No, that is not strictly true.
which is understood as a nice place, actually more than nice,
it is supposed to be wonderful. Now the interesting part. It is not
stated in one character, one word, one sentence, one line, one
paragraph in the entire Bible that you will get to Heaven if you
believe in Jesus.
2 Timothy 4:17-18 17 But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so
that through me the proclamation might be completed and all the Gentiles
might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth. 18 The Lord
will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring me safe to his
heavenly kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen.
It sais you will get an eternal life if you believe
in Jesus. According to the Bible, Jesus is supposed to have gotten to
Heaven, but that is irrelevant if YOU do not get to Heaven, right? It
would be simple for Jesus and God to state that every believer will be
promised to get to Heaven. I just did it in half a sentence (the
previous).
Gospel of Luke
41 And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we
received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing
criminal."
42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."
43 He replied to him, "Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in
Paradise."
After all, the Bible is supposed to be dead serious; why
miss such a simple and important promise? We all know all too well
what an eternal life can mean... An eternal life in Hell is probably
not comforting. Fire burns. Take a lighter or a match, and burn your
finger for some time until it hurts really bad. Is this the feeling
YOU desire for an eternity? This is hot as Napalm, agree?"
Just because many travelled with the unsinkable Titanic and everyone
comforted one another's beliefs did not mean it could not sink. Denial
is a dangerous trait; however it lies in the very nature of denial
that one never realizes that it is dangerous. The fox kills and eats
the unlucky chicken, regardless if the chicken feels safe in the croud
and cannot see the fox. Denial is like closing your eyes and start
dreaming when you previously saw danger. I wonder why the denial trait
turned out as a widely spread out trait in the human population in the
course of evolution. Is it easier to be socially acceptable if you
comfort others with obvious lies; thus you can more easily find a mate
and have children?
There are people who loves the smell of Napalm burning skin.
Actually he was talking about the gasoline smell:
"You smell that? Do you smell that? Napalm, son. Nothing
else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm
in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for
twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't
find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know
that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like - victory.
Someday this war is gonna end."
There are
cruel people. These are facts. Anyone doubt that? The very nature of a
promise is that it is binding. You need promises to have a hold on
people. Should we not have a hold on a person, fictious or not, that
has stated that he has power to send people to Hell.
Your theology just twisted. It is our actions that separate us from God.
Why is there no
promise of Heaven for believers? Because promises from the son is
binding before God?
We could have fun just discussing the trinity here.
Did Jesus know this? Either you believe in it or
not. If you do, then the issue is very real. If you don't, then you
are basically a denier of a very disturbing real possibility; what do
you know what is outside the box we call the universe?
Actually I like the idea of the Multiverse, where I have taken the time
to do something important rather than responding to you.
Why don't you
even consider a shockingly dangerous possiblity - every atom in your
body is controlled by creator(s).
Free will?
I have evidence of a super
consciousness.
What if it is merely an OK consciousness?
I do not deny facts; life is dangerous.
Moral: Check the facts before you buy something...
Hey two for one! Truisms and shopping information all at once.
Something to learn from history: The Jews hoped Hitler would not be
that bad, and where did that take them? You may hope and wish all you
like, but do not count on it.
And yet folks still buy lottery tickets.
Finally,
Oh thank god!
cruelty is a serious problem; this is symbolized by "I love the smell
of Napalm in the morning.".
You need to understand this; cruelty is met with cruelty; this evens
out the score.
Yes, which Coppola explained in the Godfather trilogy.
