Yes. It's their fear (of death, primarily) that makes them prefer
magic to "I don't know". It's no coincidence that the only species

mortality.
The herds panic when they see a elephant skeleton.

Hm. I saw a documentary in which one herd returned to an elephant
boneyard. They caressed the bones...

When they sense
that they are about to die,
they leave the herd to die alone.

A lot has to do with fear of being tortured when you die. What a
loving god!
That crap was instilled into my brain growing up.
You never totally get rid of it. It lurks in your subconscious.

It was made up to make people behave.
