Good question. But it seems that plants can do this. I saw somewhere that it
may be that all of the Japanese knotweed in Europe is essentially one
plant, spreading by rooting and cuttings rather than by "reproduction". I
think it may behoove many of us who tend to think primarily in terms of
animals to broaden our horizons to plants - you first :-)
Mmm, yes, reminiscent of the science-fiction story where the doctor
injects himself with giant redwood tree serum so he'll have a lifespan
like theirs, and as it takes effect, he thinks "Wait, redwood trees
are incapable of movement - oops!"
