Damn shame these clowns INSIST upon equating Christianity with

I used to try to convince people of just that-the hate, the arrogance, the
willful ignorance, hypocrisy, the desire to control others, and all the rest
of it was confined to the fringes of Christianity. It was confined to the
fundies, or to the Wing-Nuts, or <insert wack job of the week
POV>...frankly, I can't bring myself to do that anymore. For long time I
felt I was trying to convince people, other Christians, that they should
turn aside from those things.
I got tired of it. The truth is most of the Christians I've had contact
with don't want to think about the hard things. They don't want Truth, or
fact, or history to intrude into what they are comfortable believing and the
lifestyle they enjoy.
I do agree that much of the practice and organization of Christianity is
rife with ignorance, misinformation and disinformation. I won't defend
those things, or pretend that they don't exist.
Loving your neighbor is hard. Forgiving is hard. Feeding the poor is hard.
Understanding that all people, including yourself, are flawed and in need
is hard.
Becoming rabid at *somebody else's* sex life is easy. Building a fricking
museum that portrays the Flintstones as reality is easy. Bumper sticker
theology and shouting down anyone who is not part of your tribe or herd is
easy.
All those things only take work, money, and numbing your brain to the point
where reality doesn't matter to you anymore. The hard things take spirit,
patience, and devotion. And love.
Objecting to the nonsense that can be found throughout much of modern
Christianity? It is shouting against the wind. It is spreading your arms
wide and trying to hold back the sea. It is counting angels on a pinhead.
And I think I just did it ;)
Damn.
