Only Two Possiblities

Sorry. None of you got it.

Not surprising though for animals. My dog usually doesn't get it
either.

Perhaps none of you have yet evolved to a high enough level...

Just two possibilities? OK... Let's see:

1. The evidence of our senses can be trusted on the whole.
2. The explanation for the world around us is lost in some sort of
illusion.

The first possibility leads to scientific advancement, increased
knowledge, and verifiable models.

The second possibility includes the Dream of Brahma, a computer
virtual reality, a trickster creator god who makes it all and performs
major miracles, but then covers his tracks and makes it look like he
was never there, a brain in a tank, serious psychosis, and minor
variations of these. The problem with these variations on the theme of
illusion is that there is no way *in *principle of telling them apart.
If we cannot depend on the evidence of our senses to lead us to an
understanding of our world, then we are left drifting in ignorance,
with no clear path before us, no absolute truth to even strive for, no
explanations, no source of moral behavior (how could we even know
other people exist?).

Fortunately, the success of science over the last 350 years is
encouraging.
