Genetic diseases: Some Amish groups have a very limited gene
pool. For
example, the vast majority of Amish in Lancaster County, PA, are
descendents of about 200 Swiss citizens who emigrated in the mid
1700s.
Because they traditionally do not marry outsiders and because few
outsiders have joined the order, the "community has been
essentially a
closed genetic population for more than 12 generations." Thus,
intermarriage has brought to the fore certain genetic mutations
that
were present in the initial genetic pool (as they are in any
population), making the Amish host to several inherited
disorders." 5
These include dwarfism, mental retardation and a large group of
metabolic disorders. One in 200 have glutaric aciduria type I;
they are
born healthy, but can experience permanent neurological damage
when a
mild illness strikes. From 1988 to 2002, the Clinic for Special
Children in Lancaster County, PA, has "encountered 39 heritable
disorders among the Amish and 23 among the Mennonites.....For 18
of the
disorders seen regularly at the clinic, the incidences are high,
approximately 1/250 to 1/500 births" 6
Another delightful aspect of Amish life: Incest.

Being free from that church is a god's gift. Just the restriction of
the
breeding population is FORBIDDEN, by what any Christian or theist for
that matter must regard as God's law. It leads to birth defects.
Allowing incest is right out. But, if my sources are correct, nothing
in
the Bible proscribes Father-Daughter sex, as this does not contradict
the patriarchal principle.
What are your sources?
In general, the Bible teaches that all sex apart from marrage is
forbidden, and here is a specific command that implies the
Father-Daughter sex is forbidden.
Leviticus 18:17 (New International Version)
Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. Do not
have sexual relations with either her son's daughter or her daughter's
daughter; they are her close relatives. That is wickedness.
James
IIRC, Lot, the only one whose family was saved from the destruction of
Sodom and Gomorrah, impregnated both of his daughters afterwards. You
know, the ones he offered to the mob for a gang rape if they would
leave his important visitors alone. Of course, the girls got him drunk,
so it's not like it was his fault. He didn't do anything wrong, like
glance over his shoulder overcome by curiosity - surely a capital
crime in anyone's book.
He was both drunk and asleep, so the alcohal was kind of like a
date-rape drug. This was a case of daughters raping their father.
James
We've heard that one before. That kind of excuse goes over like a
pregnant pole vaulter.
My daughters got me drunk and raped me.
How many times did this happened?
Several times a week for 6 months, it was rape, rape, rape. I mean a guy
just can't get any peace.
Of course one could always take this metaphorically, but I'm not sure
what lessons should be learned from it.
