I have many friends, some of which are christian.. And I know atleast
one of those holds herself to a literall interpretation of the bible
(the others agree with the problems in genesis mostly, and accept
science explenations of real events that happens throughout the worlds
history)..

I myself am not good at discussing these things, and she has challenged
me with many many questions that I cant yet anser, though I am studying
many factors of evolution and its theories (also because I enjoy it)

But I might convince her to come here and erm, well I know how
unbelievably rough you can be with creationists, is there any chance
that can be slown down just a bit ?.. That instead of calling a
creationists stupid without reasoning (As many of you do here a lot,
not all, but many do) that answers stay strictly in the (I answer her
questions) category ?

Micro-rant: The standard of posting in this news group averages pretty
low (or is it just the median?), and we get lots of posts that consist
of nothing but abuse.

I'd go with the modal measure of central tendency for this.

Posts a la mode, anyone?

I would be happier if there were more substantive
replies. Even a simple link to the proper entry in the Index to
Creationist Claims would be better than "ha ha, you're just a dumb
creationist". We also get a lot of knee-jerk reactions: "a creationist
said it, I don't believe it, that settles it".

Yes, I agree.

However, for a newsgroup that was designed to be the cloaca of Usenet,
t.o. is a pretty cool, informative place.

Except for the pun cascades. No one ever expected the Pun Cascade!

Sshh, or you'll alert the Spunish Inquisition.

Among our chief weapons are such diverse elements as fear, tearing hair,
Ruth and her fish in the sea, and an all or most fantastical demotion
of hope. And lonely read uninformed.

I'll come in again.

This sort of behavior is perhaps just a little bit justified when
dealing with known quantities like David Ford or John McCoy, when we
know from long experience that they're never going to say anything
sensible, and won't listen to refutations you offer anyway. But it would
be nice if new posters were given the benefit of the doubt for at least
a few posts. What does it cost?

I don't think it costs anything like what it is worth. Easy enough to
drop into the mode if it turns out to be appropriate (FSVO "A").

So have your friend post and see what happens. One bit of advice:
honesty, humility, and politeness draw responses in kind, as do their
opposites.

Good two-sentence guide to posting pretty much anywhere.
