A deflated balloon can exist without helium or any other gas

the
two together through a particular process, and only then will you
ever
have an inflated balloon.

How is your balloon inherently different from the bubbles that form in
mudpots in thermal areas like Yellowstone and Lassen? Heated gases
from underground entering the previously flat mud create round bubbles
that last for quite a few seconds before bursting. You can have the
flat mud without the gas and you can have the gases exiting through an
open vent. Only when the two come together do you get semispherical
bubbles of a thin mud layer trapping the hot gases. They don't last as
long as a helium-filled balloon, but it doesn't appear that longevity
is an inherent requirement under your model. In both the mud and
balloon cases they can exist before the introduction of the gas but
have a significantly different shape.

you have described here some basic laws of chemistry. What I am
describing is a system where the results go beyond the results of the
basic laws of chemistry.

What do think goes "beyond" the laws of chemistry?

There is no law of chemistry or physics that
says that basic elements will automatically come together to form a
seed that contains all the instructions for a complete tree inside of
it.

A law is a concise mathematical statement about a particular phenomenon.
Why would you expect there to be a law in this sense describing a complex
biology?

If there were such a law of nature, we would come across seeds
springing into existence on a daily basis, absent a tree or plant.

Why?

What's missing from your definition of baseline synergy is an
operational test that anyone could use to determine if a particular
situation is a valid example or not. You admitted that you had to
think for awhile about the river/bed case before figuring out how to
reject it. That suggests that you don't have such an operational test
in mind and instead are using your knowledge of the design process to
determine which cases should be further scrutinized in order to reject
them from your category of baseline synergy.

what would you expect an operational test to look like if baseline
synergy were to be validated?

No, no. It's your job is provide an operational test for baseline
synergy, especially since "baseline synergy" doesn't exist outside your
head.
