because I don't really believe any substantive debate exists, just a
clash of ideologies). I just wonder if you Yanks could give me a decent
appraisal of the chances of creationism really spreading through school
boards and becoming anything but a scientific joke. Is there any chance
that these IDiots are right - that they're winning the argument of
ideas and eventually their nonsense is going to be pushed into schools?
I have always thought of America as the powerhouse of ideas in the
world. The centre of Western culture. But it seems to me that this
teriffic reputation has been underridden by the fundamentally
anti-scientific tendencies of a large swathe of the population. Is
there really a cultural change going on? Is there really much of a
chance of these tossers gaining the upper hand in governance?
Please give me a sense of perspecitve and hopefully help to quell my
panic.

I was brought up as a Christian Fundamentalist. I sat in church 45+
years ago and listened to the Creationists/Christian Reconstructionists
talk about taking over the American educational system, and then the
American secular government.

When the US becomes a theocracy, can we secularists bring our cats and
move to Britain with all y'all rational types?
Only if you take our nutters of all persuasion.
