Re: Math In D.I. Land

I was speaking to a friend of mine a while by via email, and I
mentioned that I was not a fan of the talk.origins newsgroup or
website. He asked me why. the following is just a small sample of
"why":

"Or anti-evolution people have done shitty mathematical analyses.
William Dembski, I'm looking at you. "

"the ID scam artists"

"This is just junk to fool the ingnorant creationists that support
them."

"Oh, just to be clear on something Nancy should probably take to heart.
In order to render a qualified opinion, you probably should _not_ be a
pathetic lying sack of turds."

"This is really a pathetic lie. Nancy has apparently never cracked a
biology journal in her life."

"But all those numbers get her eyes all squinchy and the headaches come
again."

"You're unqualified to render opinions on science because you're
stupid, and a liar to boot."

"Why are you such a pathetic coward?"

I understand that for many of you, years have passed since a
creationist has given you a coherent argument that really made you
think. That can make a person angry, I understand. But, seriously,
the purpose of the newsgroup is discourse. Believe it or not, there
are actually people who come to this site confused, looking for real
answers to the (perhaps frustrating) questions they have accumulated
over the years. Others come here with a "revolution" attitude and
expect to convert the masses by spewing what they heard last Sunday at
church. Either way, calling them pathetic, idiots, liars, stupid,
"sack of turds", etc, does nothing for the discourse.

I have personally seen many, many, biblical creationists, after talking
to a rational, polite evolutionist, immediately shut up and go out to
the local library or university, eager to learn more about the
abilities, or lack thereof, of evolution, simply because they have
never been exposed to it truthfully before.

So let me ask, if a person comes on this site with objections to the
ToE, either politely engage in a discourse with them, or bombard them
with facts. Either way, it's better than the norm on TO.

By the way, I am a strong believer in detectable design and the
limitations of evolution by natural selection. Therefore, I suppose
you could say that I am an Intelligent Design proponent.
