Tabby cat terror for black bear

A black bear got more than it bargained for after straying into a
family garden in the US state of New Jersey.

The unwelcome intruder was forced up a tree - twice - by the family
pet, a tabby cat called Jack.

The terrified bear was only able to make its escape when owner Donna
Dickey called the hissing cat into the house.

I once had a 6-month old kitten that was chased into a garage by a
german shepard. I thought my kitty was done for. Moments later the
shepard came running out of the garage yelping, followed by my kitty
bouncing and hissing after it.

Them cats got nerve...

My experience was of an adult cat grown from a feral kitten - he was
about half the size of your garden variety jaguar. When cornered he
opened up four parallel cuts down the dog's muzzle, and then lazily
chased it up the street again. The dog was later destroyed for being
vicious. In a cat v. dog fight, bet on the cat.

"He used... sarcasm. He knew all the tricks, dramatic irony, metaphor,
bathos, puns, parody, litotes and... satire. He was vicious."

Not too long ago (but long enought that I don't remember just how long
ago) a mountain lion was treed by a toy poodle in the Anahiem Hills of
Orange County. I was working on a mountain lion study project in the
early 1990s, and we had a 150lb cat treed by two puppies.

Maybe "domesticated" cats are braver than the wild ones and were
willing to confront mere humanity (and win).

Dr. GH: My dog has treed two mountain lions within a quarter mile of
your (presumed) office at Saddleback (in arroyo trabuco). It seems to
me that mountain lions are generally non confrontational and are most
dangerous when you don't see them (the big cats being ambush preditors
as the two people up in Irvine foiund out the hard way).
