What makes you think Ed Conrad is a con artist? Everything I've read from
him seems to indicate that he's just a loon, and moreover that he probably
hasn't profited from said looniness.

When a scientist produces evidence it means they went out into the
field, recovered it and exhaustively researched it. If they're lucky,
they might sell their discovery to a museum, if their finding is
important enough.

When Ed Conrad produces evidence, it means he found an interesting
looking rock and then toiled away in his basement to produce a fake
artifact to convince the gullible. Then he sells his "discoveries" in
eBay.

ie. He's a con artist.

Clearly Conrad's con didn't work out as well as Hovind's has. Hovind's
con is more sophisticated. It doesn't make what he attempted to do any
less despicable.
